best of the nest - may link party

Hi friends, we are celebrating at our house today as yesterday was the last day of
school, woo hoo! We waste no time getting in the swing of an unstructured summer
routine of lazy mornings, late nights and enjoying lots of time outside.
I'm hoping to knock out some projects around here this summer, I'm always inspired
by the projects you guys link up and can't wait to see what you have this month!
Best of the Nest will be taking a break over the summer, but watch for a new spin
come September!
As usual Lisa, Kris, Jennifer and I will share what we were up to for the month.

I was thrilled to join with 19 other bloggers for the One Room Challenge and shared
the reveal of my client's master bedroom. We updated items they owned, used Craigslist
finds and DIYs to create a fresh new look.

Pam @ Simple Details

Lisa joined the One Room Challenge fun as well, and revealed a beautiful
living room makeover for her lucky clients. She brought the room to life with

a few new elements and smart tweaks of pieces they owned.

Lisa @ Shine your Light

Kris shared some great solutions for window treatments for tricky windows.
We now know she inherited her mom's great decorating genes. Their beautiful home
was the inspiration for the post while she was visiting.

Kris @ Driven by Décor

Jennifer's Master Bedroom Makeover had been in the planning stage for awhile,
the One Room Challenge was the perfect motivation for her to finish it up. Her
talent for mixing bold, bright color and pattern is unmatched, and it's chock full
of great DIY projects, too!

a new bedroom project

A friend of mine recently asked me to help with her guest room, she's an awesome
designer, but was having trouble making it flow with the rest of her home.
Her plan was to keep it budget friendly by using a duvet, bed skirt and chair she'd had
for awhile. While I was scrolling through her Pinterest pins it hit me, her style had changed
since she originally purchased those pieces and they weren't her at all - no wonder
she was feeling stuck and uninspired by her options.
I sent her this inspiration pic and said, "This looks like you, we can get the look on a budget."
Her email back said, "Oooooh, I'm so excited!!!"

Here's the plan so far...

William Sonoma Home

Btw, you all loved the tour of her home - Builder Beige to Black Beauty
that I shared here a couple years ago.

BEFORE:
This was the duvet, bedskirt and chair she was originally trying to work with.

We've ordered my favorite Walmart Grayson Upholstered Headboard here
Great Faux Linen
Nailheads
779 Reviews 4.5 Stars
ON SALE for $129! Free Shipping & Returns
It's actually darker gray in person.

My friend Lisa's super reasonable IKEA Sconce Hack to mimic those beautiful brass sconces
is on our list.

A DIY Abstract Art similar to Jessie's.

I'm thinking one of these leather strap chairs that I shared with you in my
I Spy a Craigslist Buy post would be perfect.

And, did you notice the gorgeous molding in our inspiration photo, we haven't talked
about it but I know she'd be all over that!
I'll be sharing progress updates along the way and scouring Craigslist for some
nightstands or other unique pieces that might work.

Enjoy a wonderful long weekend with friends or family, some sunshine
and a BBQ sounds perfect to me!  :)
I'll be taking off a few days after Memorial Day next week,
but will see you on Friday for Best of the Nest.

ikea bekvam cart

Today's Ikea favorite, the Bekvam Cart is a workhorse that easily transitions from the
kitchen to your patio or deck, or any space for that matter.  It's ideal for extra storage, utility
or work space, and gets great reviews for it's sturdy solid wood construction and versatility.

Ikea Bekvam Kitchen Cart
Solid Birch
$59.99
23" W x 20" L x 33" H
Casters on two legs allow for easy moving.
HERE

I love how Meg at Oliver and Rust customized hers with paint, a towel bar,
and a pretty marble top.

Small enough to fit in the tightest kitchen yet functional enough to act as a
small island and hold a collection of cutting boards and pots and pans.

 ikeafans.com

Textured baskets fit perfectly and hold kitchen necessities.

Pretty in pistachio green!

It would be perfect outside on the deck as a grill station, serving cart or beverage station.
This one by Homeroad reminds me of the special one Lisa made for her husband last year!

I Spy a Craigslist Buy (2)

Hey everyone, hope you had an awesome weekend!
I'm back today with another round of items available on our Craigslist right now.
I'm dying over these first chairs, and the CRAAAZY price!

 southshoredecorating.com

Wicker furniture set - table, chairs, loveseat etc. - $250 (Greeley)

This listing is a ways out of the metro area but you must see all that is included
for $250! In addition to this table and chairs and console below, more wicker furniture.

The wicker console would be super fun to use on a deck as beverage center.

Bamboo sofa table with 2 matching end tables - $100 (Boulder)

This would be a beautiful entry console table.

A pair of side tables are included, they would be great on an outdoor patio.

ballard designs

Set of 2 Gothic Woven Leather Strap Chairs Fit for a King & Queen! - $245 (SE Aurora)

 http://denver.craigslist.org/fud/5025908981.html

I love the rich texture of wood and leather in a white room and these would easily
mix with a multitude of styles!

carlaaston.com

Or, they'd be fabulous as host chairs at a dining table.

Pottery Barn
Dinette table, Asian style base with beveled glass top - $100 (Denver)

The base is available for $75 (30" L x 18" W  x 29" H)

If you don't need a dining table you could easily use the great elephant base as a
unique side table indoors or out.

styletherories.com

Ikea Docksta Table Like new - $100 (Aurora)

This table sells for $199 at IKEA

If you like neutrals I'd pair it with something with a great texture like wicker or leather.

engelta.hubpages.com

When I searched dining chairs there were over 1,700 listings, you can find just about any
style you can imagine. Many are easily reupholstered by just unscrewing the bottom seat and stapling on new fabric.

sohautestyle.com

That's it for today guys, hope you're inspired!
For those of you who asked me to check out your local Craigslist,
I'll definitely do some posts for you and show you what I find. :)

(I'm so sorry about the mix of odd fonts - I have no clue what's up and it's
midnight, I'll try to figure it out in the morning.)

ORC Linking Participant Favorites

Hi friends, hope you had a wonderful weekend!
All of the rain over the past week put a damper on Mother's Day at our house.
Long story short... rain, water, basements, rental properties....not fun!
But we'll make up for it next weekend.
I was chatting with a friend of mine and asked if she'd had a chance to look at any
of the 145 One Room Challenge Linking Participants' Reveals, she said no but she
loved it when I did a round up of my favorites. I'm sure you've heard but the talent
is over the top amazing!

I've seen a lot of the rooms already featured on other blogs and
Instagram, so I tried to choose some that I hadn't seen as frequently,
or may be a new to you blog.

Please click through and pin from the original source.

Enjoy...

One Room Challenge - Another Craigslist Bedroom Reveal

Woo hoo, the day we've been waiting for!!
First, I just want you all to know how thankful I am for you! It's so wonderful that I
have the opportunity to do what I love and your support and friendship and the fact
that you read my little blog is truly icing on the cake. :)

A heartfelt thank you to Linda @ Calling It Home, the brilliant creator behind the
One Room Challenge - I love the energy and excitement it creates in the blogging
community and  the motivation to finish a room and give it your all.

If you'd like to start from the beginning:
Week 3 - Fabric, Chairs & More Craigslist here
Week 4 - DIYs
Week 5 - Lamps, Ceiling

Without further ado - the reveal of my client's Master Bedroom:

My clients wanted a neutral background with pops of color, a mix of styles, and
wanted to keep their dark four poster bed and dresser. I had so much fun scouring
Craigslist for them, including DIYs and budget friendly sources (Ikea, Target,
World Market) to create a unique room. Items from our generous sponsors,
Arhaus,  MintedLoom Decor and Wayfair brought it all together.

Next week I'll share sources and more details on our room.
Today, I know you want the pretty pictures! :)

We gave the room a modern backdrop with fresh white paint, and used high gloss
enamel finish on the four poster bed and Ikea nightstand hack (details to come).
The large room with high ceilings was perfect for over size statement artwork,
we found at Minted

BEFORE

#1 Craigslist steal was a zebra hide, I was beside myself to see it pop up. The tufted
chairs were just like their inspiration photo, but were discontinued, awesome World
Market employees went out of their way to get a pair to us. The black industrial cage
light is a nice contrast against the light panels (thank you Loom Decor!) in the corner,
and it along with the moody abstract (thank you Minted!) add an edge to the softness
 of the seating area.

#2 Thrift store find were vintage Florentine nesting tables.

BEFORE
This dresser was made by my client's dad years ago and they'd never put any finish on
it. We saw a beautiful piece at Anthropologie but it was $$$ and was our inspiration for
this DIY weathered gray finish (details to come).

#3 Craigslist score a beautiful bamboo mirror we love.
#4 Craigslist score, the dresser!!
They had wanted to keep the old dresser but the style and scale weren't the best, I
found the new dresser with beautiful hardware and a lower profile - they were able to
sell the old one for the price of the new and it was a wash. Win - win!!
#5 Craigslist score - the curvy cane back chair with a citron velvet tufted seat, It worked
perfectly with all the straight lines of the dresser, art, lamp and mirror.

 More beautiful artwork from Minted!

Our crisp white duvet with modern embroidery detail is from Wayfair.

We chose Target benches for the end of the bed and reupholstered with a shaggy fur
to add some great texture and a bit of whimsy.
The nightstands are Ikea hacks (more to come). We started with a simple box style and
updated the finish, base, hardware and added a nailhead detail.
Speaking of nailhead did you notice our ceiling!!!!! Go ahead scroll back up. :)

These gorgeous lamps are from Arhaus (thank you, generous sponsor!) we we're thrilled
to find them when I visited. The top quality and beautiful details are unmatched. The black
shades give balance to that side of the room.

And, last but not least our nailhead ceiling! We knew we wanted to give their beautiful
tray ceiling an interesting detail and this random geometric was a cool addition that
we all loved. More details next week!

Thank you so much to my wonderful clients for allowing me to share their home
with all of you and for enduring the six week challenge! They were there pounding in
nailheads long after I'd left at the end of a day, and worked so hard on every project
along the way. You guys are truly the best!
