Project Update ~ A Productive Weekend!

Good Monday morning!
Do you guys remember when I found this cabinet on Craigslist, and
Well...I'm not quite finished, but I made a big dent over the weekend, I was on a
roll with the gold Rub 'n Buff!

I haven't mentioned this client project yet, but we've revamped her entry,
powder room, dining room and family room. We purchased this new bench
for seating at her dining room table, and I recovered it for her with this fun polka
dot fabric. I was so excited to change out the original brown leather I totally
forgot to take a before pic, but you can see the retailer's photo below.
And, I tried it out in my living room before loading it up! :)

Have the best week, friends!

Kate Spade's New Fabric Line Reveal

Kate Spade's new fabric line does not disappoint!
It's filled with her signature style ~ beautiful vivid hues, polka dots,
 playful prints, and classic stripes.
A couple months ago I heard Calico Home would be carrying her new line,
it finally arrived at our store in Cherry Creek and my client and I were smitten.
I was able to snap a few photos of the stylish collection for you.
You can find it here, prices range from $50 - $150/yard.
(Not all items in the collection are on the Calico website, you might check a local store.)

One of the employees in the store was working on a guest room using
Amapola - Maraschino. A big-impact, oversized floral print (far left) for the
front of pillows and navy velvet on the back. So good!

Black and white done right.

I want a fitted dress with bell sleeves in the textured pink print like this
and shoes out of the gray and white Ocelot Dot. #playingfashiondesigner
Or, maybe a Master Bedroom update.

Boring neutrals ~ NOT!!!

Texture LOVE!

Kate's fearless use of color ~ always inspiring.

That little owl makes me want to have a baby and design a nursery with
these fun coordinates! :)

I could see this in a beach house, a nod to nautical a la Kate.

Do you have a favorite?

My Five Favorites ~ Fabric

We're focusing on Fabric this month for My Five Favorites,
and clearly my post should be titled My Five Favorite Black & White Fabrics!
I knew I liked black and white, but didn't realize how often it shows up in my decor.
It's a great neutral that mixes effortlessly with other colors and patterns,
whether classic, graphic or dramatic. I'm anxious to see if it shows up on my blogging
pals' lists of favorites as well.

I'm excited to welcome our guest this month, Sarah @ Life on Virginia Street.
She just shared her beautiful Summer Home Tour yesterday, it's perfectly serene and filled
with pretty beachy hues, you'll definitely want to visit. Don't miss the progress on her
  stunning new pool too!
I think I'd like to vacation there!

#1
Ralph Lauren - Zebra Print

This is a new favorite, and I can't wait to find a way to include it in my house!
We recently used Ralph Lauren's Tangiers Zebra - Ebony for my client's chair reupholster,
and love the timeless yet chic feel.

#2
IKEA - Sofia Black & White Stripe

A classic wide black and white stripe at an amazing price $7.99/yard,
100 % cotton, and a nice heavier weight similar to duck cloth.
I used it as table runners for a wedding, it would make great pillows, too.

My nephew's pretty peach wedding.

#3
Nate Berkus - Tolo Coal

Nate Berkus can do no wrong in my book, and I chose this print for my kitchen valances
and backs of barstools in my kitchen update.
I shared several patterns from Nate's fabric collection in this post.

#4
Nate Berkus - Akis Noir

Another Nate favorite! This timeless Greek Key print is done in a rich raised velvet
and totally worth the splurge.  I used it in my client's master bedroom makeover.

#5
Canadian Fox Faux Fur

I always get asked where my luxurious throw is from.
I'll share my secret...it's faux fur fabric from a local fabric store, Colorado Fabrics.
It sells for about $50/yard, a yard and a half makes a nice size throw.

One Room Challenge - Week 2 - Fabrics & Craigslist

Hi friends, welcome to ORC Week 2, dang these weeks fly by!
Thanks so much for your excitement and encouragement for our Great Room project
last week! I'm so excited to share our fabric choices today and give you a better feel
for our eclectic mix! I was thrilled that my client was on board for a not-so-typical
 color combination.
As I mentioned in Week 1, we'll be using two gray sofas, we chose pretty, bright
pops of fuchsia, and bold pattern with high contrast to give the room some pizazz.

Here's a peek at our fabric choices for the first floor of their home,
I thought you'd like to see all of them. :)
The Great Room choices are the three at Top Center and two at Top Right.

My favorite paint color, that I've used in three other One Room Challenge rooms,
Benjamin Moore - Simply White is the choice once again.
It's always just so perfect, I can't quit it!
We chose a marble basket weave tile for the fireplace surround, and were so excited to
see progress, only to notice the floor tiles they installed weren't correct, they should be
honed black marble.

Our first Craigslist score was this ornate gold mirror for above the fireplace! Woo hoo!

These 34" Savoy House sconces will flank the mirror.

Remember our inspiration pic, our mirror and sconces are both larger in scale.

This week we're finalizing our decision for the gray sofas, doing two simple DIYs,
and scouring Craigslist for a sofa table.

Are you following along with all the other ORC participants' projects, such a crazy
amount of inspiration from lots of favorite bloggers and former ORC designers!

one room challenge - week 3

Hey friends, thank you so much for stopping by to check in on Week 3 of the
One Room Challenge. Things are coming together and it's getting exciting, but we
still have a few big DIYs on the list and I'm famous for under estimating how long
they'll take to complete. That being said, we have a ways to go. You can catch up with
 previous weeks here:

We had fun deliveries this week -  FABRIC!
I chose this mix of patterns and burst of color to incorporate my client's request for
'pops of color with a neutral background and furnishings.'

Remember our inspiration chairs? I found some!
World Market came through for us, unfortunately the ivory linen we wanted had been
discontinued. Without the help of two outstanding employees, who jumped through hoops,
they'd still be in some backroom in CA. World Market doesn't ship between stores, but the
Denver manager and CA manager scoured the country for two chairs, packed them up,
arranged for a Fed Ex pickup, and sent them our way.
Since they'd been discontinued the price was a steal, less than $200 each including shipping!

We were planning to keep their dresser, I knew the warm wood would look great against
our crisp white walls, BUT this thing was a beast, at 40" H x 65" W x 25" D it
completely overpowered that side of the room and the style wasn't working for us.

** Do you see the little black spot underneath the right side of the dresser?**
It's their sweet pup Zoey's favorite spot.

My goal was to find something on Craigslist that was reasonable, stylish and didn't
sacrifice storage. They could then sell theirs for a similar price and it would be a wash.

My Craigslist find for the week! :)
$300 for the vintage dresser and nightstand (which we plan to paint and use in their basement).
The length is the same, but the lower height and narrower depth are a much better scale and
we love the brass hardware.

And storage galore. I feel SO bad for Zoey though!
For those of you who asked about my Craigslist tips last week, I've shared a few of them
 here and here.

A happy delivery from our awesome sponsor Minted! Their selection of artwork is fabulous
and I can't wait to share the statement pieces we've chosen. Here's a sneak peek at a small
portion of our art I worked on framing.

This week we have DIYs and window treatments on our to-do list.

I'm off to see what these fabulous friends have been up to:

wonderful comments are truly icing on the cake!
We set out to create a beautiful room on a budget and are happy to share our

one room challenge ~ week 2

First, you guys are the BEST!
Thank you SO much for all your sweet comments and support last week!!
You can catch up with Week 1 - The Plan  here.

This week we were pleasantly surprised when our budget friendly upholstered
headboard was delivered. Great quality, great nailheads, great service,
great price $149, and free shipping and returns!
I'm so hesitant to tell you where it's from, deep breath 1 - 2 - 3 - Walmart!

A simple silhouette was best against the busyness of the windows, and with free shipping
and returns we decided to order both colors we were debating. We liked the lighter oatmeal
color, linen-like fabric and contrast of the nailheads.

We narrowed down color and fabric choices.
Here were some of the combinations we played with, she is a neutral loving girl.
Do you have a favorite?

We were keeping our fingers crossed for nightstands to show up on Craigslist, on
Sunday morning I opened my CL tab and these amazing Drexel campaign chests had
been listed 27 minutes earlier! $30 each! I dialed the number so fast and talked even
 faster...IwanttobuyyourchestswhencanIpickthemup?
They're an awesome size, we wanted large, and we're hoping they're not too big.

When you stop by next week we'll have splashed crisp white paint from top to bottom
and will show you some of our other Craigslist pieces we're incorporating.

diy framed batik fabric...

Are you sitting down? I finally made a decision and finished my gallery wall!
The empty frames hanging in the living room had been the subject of jokes with friends
and family for a year awhile, no more! I loved the vibrant colors and patterns of these
batik-like fabrics I found at  Joanns and Hancock Fabrics, and knew how simple and
inexpensive it would be to frame them. Remember when I showed you lots of options

I like the contrast of the ornate details on my Craigslist settee that I reupholstered
with the simple modern frames.

I hit the jackpot at Goodwill one day a year ago and found all the frames (already matted)
 for $8 each, they're nice sized 18" x 21". The entire arrangement is 5 1/2 feet x 6 1/2 feet,
large enough to make a pretty statement.

I bought a third of a yard each of several prints, the fabric was 30% off
the day I shopped and each ended up being about $3, total $27.

The process is just a few simple steps:

1) Iron your fabric smoothing out any wrinkles.

2) Place fabric behind mat and position pattern/color to your liking.

3) Trim fabric and hot glue to edge of mat, place in your frame.

I'm loving the variation in colors and how effortlessly they'll mix with some
warm tones for fall, which is right around the corner! :)
