A Simple Rule for Mixing Table & Chair Styles

Hi friends, it just happens I'm helping four clients with kitchen nook spaces,

 and thought I'd pass along my simple rule for mixing table and chair styles to create

 my favorite eclectic look. I love the collected look juxtaposition gives a room. It's 

an easy formula to keep from having that matchy look designers steer clear of. 

 It works for a multitude of styles, and is all about contrast.

#1 ~ Contrasting Style

Choose furniture styles that contrast

French with modern, traditional with coastal, modern with rustic,

industrial with vintage, formal with casual, ornate with clean lines

     #2 ~ Contrasting Shape   

 Choose a table shape that contrasts with the chair shape

Round table with Square high back chairs

Rectangular table with Curved high back chairs

Rectangular table with Detailed chair backs

Round table with Geometric bamboo pattern

#3 ~ Contrasting Color & Texture

Choose colors, finishes and textures that contrast 

Add contrasting color in upholstery or paint,

smooth finish with textured rattan or metal,

distressed finish with lacquered 

  

Super simple ~ start with either your table or chairs and follow the contrast rules.

My Latest Craigslist Score!

I've been scouring Craigslist for some sort of chairs for our deck that we could

 easily pull out for extra seating when we had larger groups of friends or family over.

I wasn't having any luck, but I wasn't willing to give up on my criteria.

1 - Stylish

2 - Comfortable

3 - Easy to Store

I loved this look I noticed on Copy Cat Chic a few days ago (via Emily Henderson on Facebook), 

and it dawned on me that the Bamboo Director's Chairs I'd been waffling about could

 easily be made over with new covers! 

Don't the classic black and white stripes take these up a notch? So crisp and summery.

I lucked out that they were still available!

Vintage Bamboo Director's Chairs by Telescope 

I purchased four of them for a steal - $70!  

They're amazing ~ heavy duty, comfortable, in perfect condition and they fold up

nice and compact for storing during the winter. Oh, and the stylish bamboo!!! :)

The covers should be a slam-dunk

 sewing project, I just need to find the perfect striped fabric.

Our Summer Home Tour 2016

Happy Summer Friends!
Welcome if you're stopping by from Christy's lovely tour at  Our Southern Home, also
 a huge thank you to sweet Marty @ A Stroll Thru Life for putting together the fun tours!

If you're new here I share our 1938 cottage style home in Denver with
 Mr. Simple, our teenage son, and our spoiled fur babies! Come on in and I'll show you
what I've been up to getting our home spiffed up for summer.

Since I changed things up for my Spring Home Tour at the end of March, and I was
still loving all my new blue pillows...are you sitting down....I wanted to keep them
 through summer! Crazy, I know! Haha!
Don't worry, I made some other changes to go with them!

Living Room

This striped chair is my newest Craigslist find...are you still sitting down...$50! 

Despite my overflowing collection of chairs it was too fun to pass up!  

If you've forgotten here are my old blue pillows :) and a pair of bamboo chairs

from my stash in the basement. I like the airy summer vibe.   

Dining Room 

Much to my surprise, I've grown fond of the lively green walls in our dining room.
It feels fresh for summer, and a little daring.  My friend and I found a pair of huge
brass lamps at an antique store one day and shared them. My sweet client gave me a
foo dog for my collection (of two, so far).

Family Room

I added the large canvas abstract to the family room to tie in with the blues
throughout. I tried my hand at a DIY, it looks nothing like what I was going for, but
 I'm happy with it after a lot of tweaking.

Kitchen

My favorite update is new slipcovers I made for my barstools. I thought taking the old
ones apart and copying the pattern would be a no-brainer. Sewing them back together
 put my skills to the test, but I love them now that I'm finished!

Latest Craigslist Score & ALL My Dining Room Chairs

Hi friends, hope you had a great weekend.

If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen my latest Craigslist score that I

 picked up on Friday. I was smitten with the shape on these vintage gems. I would

 have passed since the last thing I need is a FOURTH set of dining room chairs,    

(yes, it's true, they're stacked to the ceiling in my basement with my other Craigslist addiction!)

 but the price was crazy ~ $15 for all five! I couldn't resist.   

I also have these faux bamboo chairs my fabulous friend found for me

while I was vacationing.  I did paint them black, I think I forgot to show you.

I could never part with this classic style.     

I'm sure you've forgotten all about these mid-century treasures that were a steal

a couple of years ago. I sanded and primed them and stalled out trying to decide on

 a color and upholstery. I still love the 40" height and sexy backside. :)  

I've never seen anything like them, so they're keepers.    

And then I have the vintage set you've seen for the last few years with a couple

different fabrics. The mix of styles with my farm table and  open style backs are

too perfect too give up. 

I know it's probably more than I need, haha, but what's a girl to do?

new chairs and a dilemma

So, I have some new vintage faux bamboo dining room chairs! :)

And, no surprise I'm in the biggest quandary as to what to do with them. 

While on vacation last week my fabulous friend and uber awesome thrifter sends me this

 text -  "4 chairs at $6 per. Do you have a client in need?"

I tried to think of someone and tried to talk her into taking them and finally gave in,

 because it's no secret I have a problem with chairs.  

I loved the pattern on the back of my other chairs, but always wished the backs were a

tad taller. These are about 4.5" higher and I couldn't resist the detail at the top. 

  

   

And, SERIOUSLY $6 each! 

I'm all over a deal like that, there's no guilt if (haha!) when I want to change it up.

  

Now to decide on what color to paint and re-upholster. 

I love the idea of something unexpected and dramatic...
