Fall Into the Holidays ~ Bedroom Ceiling Pizazz

Welcome to week two of  FALL INTO THE HOLIDAYS, a four week series
where we'll be sharing ideas for sprucing up our homes before the holiday season kicks into
high gear. Our lovely hostess Lisa @ Shine Your Light came up with the idea by asking friends
what they'd most like to see on blogs - hands down, simple, do-able ideas were the favorite!
This week we're focusing on the BEDROOM.
Don't miss my talented friends at the end of the post, you'll want to pop over and check
 out their fun ideas too!

Today I'm sharing my friend's ceiling in her guest bedroom. She painted it a bold accent
color and it added so much pizazz! Its a simple, budget friendly way to inject a fun look
if your guest room needs a refresh before holiday guests arrive.

I love the vibrant coral, rust shade that she pulled from her blanket, custom pillow and
roman shade. It's Sherwin Williams 7600 - Bolero.

We still have a plan for black and white artwork beneath the sconces to
finish off the room.

I think it's the perfect unexpected bold choice and totally makes the room.

We'll be back next Tuesday sharing a new room idea, and if you missed last
week I dished about an easy kitchen update here

Don't miss these friends' ideas, too!

Fall into the Holidays ~ Kitchen

Welcome to FALL INTO THE HOLIDAYS, a four week series where we'll be sharing
ideas for sprucing up our homes before the holiday season kicks into high gear.
Our lovely hostess Lisa @ Shine Your Light came up with the idea by asking friends what
they'd most like to see on blogs - hands down, simple, do-able ideas were the favorite!
So that's our goal - and this week we're focusing on the kitchen.
Don't miss my talented friends at the end of the post, you'll want to pop over and check
 out their fun ideas too!

You guys this is one of those, "I can't believe I waited so long to do this" items.
It's been three and a half years since I did our kitchen update for the One Room Challenge.
I LOVED the vibrant flat weave wool rug I chose, but sadly it was a maintenance nightmare,
and didn't last at our house. It attracted Golden Retriever hair like flies to dog doo!

In the meantime we lived with this BLAH brown, low maintenance natural
fiber rug that wore like iron and hid ALL the things! And, when I wanted to
change it up, I flipped it over! Yep, reversible to the other BLAH brown side!
If that wasn't enough, the edges started looking ratty and one corner curled a little that
you tripped over if it wasn't strategically placed.
#soembarassing

I've finally found something that I think will work, this medallion rug is $30, and has
great reviews.  It's washable, I haven't had a washable rug for a zillion years, I didn't even
know they made them anymore. I'll let you know how it goes.
#feelingstylish

I love that it has the vibe of this beautiful rug...

Thanks for stopping by friends, hope you're inspired to make a little change.
We'll be back next Tuesday sharing more ideas.

Don't miss these friends' ideas!

My Five Favorite Ideas for Decorating Teen Rooms

Hi friends! It was still summer for our last My Five Favorites, that month flew by and here
we are already in the midst of  fall! This month my blogging pals and I are sharing our
favorite ideas for kiddos' rooms, mine are all focused on teen rooms. I love helping them
create spaces that reflect their personality and they're usually pretty opinionated about it. :)
I'm anxious to see what everyone has on their favs' list, be sure to check them out:

Jennifer @ Dimples & Tangles

I'm excited to share our guest, Julie @ Julie Blanner,  I'm smitten with her refreshing
style, she has quite the talent for creating perfectly edited spaces. Actually, I have a confession
to make - I tried to emulate her style for my Christmas decor one year, it truly looked like I
just moved in and only unpacked one box! SO bad! Simply put, her minimalist style is
stunning, as is her beautiful photography.

Today I'm changing it up from my usual format to make it easier to visualize how you
can pull together all my five favorite ideas in one room. Here are four rooms each with
a collection of all my favs.

#1 Unexpected Lighting
#2 Custom Artwork
#3 Custom Pillows
#4 Mix of Styles
#5 Unique Bed/Headboard

Sophisticated Teen Boy's Room

My son and I had so much fun revamping his room, I can't believe it's been five years! :(
A menswear glen plaid was the starting point for this sophisticated mix, we used it on an
upholstered headboard and box springs. The artwork is a mix of a custom abstract, framed
prints, poster and a Nike shopping bag. We call the abstract 'tennis match.'

We mixed lighting styles, a brass swing arm work lamp and floor lamp with a green tweed
fabric covered shade.

Teen Sports Cave

We created a built-in look with wall to wall bookcases flanking the headboard, and added
a pair of industrial outdoor lights to the sides of the bookcase. We snaked the wiring through
the bookcase to the outlet behind it. For a sharp mix we included a handsome lamp with
textured shade. Sentimental sports photos memorabilia was the artwork of choice.

Bright Bold Teen Girl's Room

We gave a traditional four poster bed and vintage nightstands new life with fresh paint,
and added drama with a canopy net. A few custom pillows pulled our color palette together.

We used a traditional lamp on the nightstand and a floor lamp in the reading nook.
I love using a budget friendly, fabric covered lampshade for a fun dose of pattern.

Fresh Modern Teen Girl's Room

Vintage bamboo furniture paired with a modern lucite chair and unexpected chrome task
lamp gave us a fun eclectic style. A custom pink zebra bolster added pizazz to store bought
bedding. To keep the gallery wall from being overly busy we framed all the art in white
frames and mats.
