Happy August friends! I'm in denial that summer is flying by and my son is
heading out of state for college in two weeks! :( However, there is no denying this month's
My Five Favorites topic, "Mixing Old and New" is the design style I'm most drawn to time
and again! An eclectic mix of timeless antiques and modern pieces speak to me, and I'm
sharing how I create the look. I'm anxious to see what inspiration my pals are mixing up.

I'm excited to welcome our guest this month, Melaine @ My Sweet Savannah has
created such a charming place for her family in their beautiful lake front home. I love her
one-of-a-kind style and that it's filled with meaningful touches throughout.
#1 - Geometric Pattern
The addition of a geometric pattern on the walls lends a youthful, casual feel and keeps
our bedroom from feeling overly formal. I like using geometrics when reupholstering
antique furniture, too. (See below)
#2 - Ornate Mirrors
If you've been reading for anytime at all you know I have a weakness for
ornate gold mirrors. Add furnishings with clean lines and it's the perfect pairing
of timeless and chic in my book.
#3 - Antique Tables
Rich wood of antique tables add warmth and always look beautiful against white walls
and furnishings.
They're plentiful and inexpensive on Craigslist, estate sales, or thrift stores.
Don't forget your accessories ~ I intentionally mixed old (ornate gold tray) with
new (modern shape vase and square box).
#4 - Dining Table & Chairs
Dining rooms are much more interesting with an eclectic mix of table and chairs.
I like a stained table with painted or upholstered chairs to keep it from being too matchy.
Did you notice my geometric pattern on the chairs (See #1 above) mixed with the
traditional rug and chandelier.
#5 - Antique Cabinet w Modern Accessories
Bold white accessories with varied silhouettes are a great statement to use with an antique
secretary or vintage hutch. Using accessories in the same color family helps to keep it from
looking overly busy.
Notice the mix of antique silver too.
And the modern ghost chair with antique secretary.
And the geometric pattern on both chairs.
