After the artwork that didn't go quite as planned I started thinking about my collection of
diy projects that hadn't turned out.
I decided to see what I could rescue before starting a new project.
Of course, I started with the easiest!
This sunburst mirror was inspired by cute and sassy Cassie @ Hi Sugarplum.
I made it last fall from wood shims, but wanted the color
a shinier metallic gold and never found the perfect spot for it...until today!
TIP: You should make sure you have a spot for your projects
this is 40 x 40, and doesn't just fit in any corner!
I followed Cassie's tutorial that she followed from J and J Home.
2 packages of wood shims from local hardware store
Sturdy round form - 12"
Glue sticks
Start gluing the shims to the outer edge of your form, continue with the second layer
which Cassie clearly explains you'll want to glue closer to the center to get
a nice dimension.
She tore hers apart after realizing she had glued the second layer right on top of the first.
I followed along perfectly, mistakes and all!
Wouldn't those people who make blonde jokes have a hey day with us!
Continue with ALL of your shims!
6 months later...measure the center and glue your mirror onto the shims,
and find a space for your completed diy!
Do you have a collection of unfinished projects? Do tell!

Pam, that mirror looks gorgeous over the bench! Nice job finishing it up and finding it a home. :) I am working on some "unfinished" projects this week. I am horrible at starting things and then finding a new project to start before the old one(s) are done.
Ooh, the mirror looks great on your newly painted walls! I think we all have a few unfinished projects so I better get out my sewing machine and finish my pillows! Thanks for the inspiration!
Pam! This is the perfect spot!! Looks fabulous! I wish I at least had some unfinished projects. I have all these ideas for projects that have yet to be started.
I love your mirror! It looks great there. Yes, I do have unfinished projects... I start something with a picture in my mind of how it should look and when it doesn't I get discouraged and stick it away. A few weeks ago I made a wreath that didn't turn out right so I stuck it under the bed for another time. :)
I love it, no matter how long it took! It looks great over your bench.
Perfectly placed with the black bench and the pops of pink! The problem with unfinished projects like these at my house (and I have many) is that they live in my dining room until I get to them! I do have to ask...it looks like you did not paint the shims, am I correct? If that is the case, I am so doing this one!
Oops! Thanks for reminding me, Cathy! I did paint the shims, brushed on with gold metallic craft paint.
I'm going to try this one too someday - either for me or a client. Quick, inexpensive, and packs a huge punch. And, hiya cute as ever Tory Burch bag! Adorable - I'm treating myself to some Tory flats soon. I've got a ton of unfinished projects - sooner or later they'll get done.
i love that! the warmth it adds above the bench is perfect!
Pam, you are a girl after my own heart! I have more unfinished projects than I care to admit! Your mirror looks great!!!! Have a great day!
This looks amazing Pam! Love your hot pink Tory Burch tote making an appearance too! :)
Well, it's about time...ha! It looks great. Did you ask yourself, "Why didn't I finish that earlier?" right after you hung it?
This project gets me every time! I love it! I definitely need to try it. Yours turned out great. :)
Love it!! its perfect for that space. And I think I need your little TB pink bag! too cute!
Love your mirror - and also those TB shoes and bag :) Have a wonderful day!

Most of my unfinished projects have been tossed out. Your mirror project is beautiful!

What a perfectly styled photo! Wish I was sitting right there slipping those cute shoes on and picking up that fabulous bag, right before checking my lipstick in the mirror and heading out the door. Beautiful!
Oh I love, love, love it Pam! And your photo styling is SO pretty in the first photo - you had me at hello! (black bench, pops of pink, cute shoes??) Reminding me yet again why it's just not fair that you live so far away from me!
Now where on earth can I put one of these in my house??
this is an amazing DIY...just all the possibilities of what can be used as shims...Are they considered unfinished projects if they are still sitting in my mind...Grrr, not enough DIY time!
I love your mirror! It looks great over the bench. (And your pink Tory is amazing too!)
I love the color, Pam. This is a great example of a good-sized piece of artwork and love the styling of the vignette - shoes and all!
i love that sunburst mirror!! and cassie's blog is just awesome
I do have a pile of projects - most involve my sewing machine! Gotta get busy next week!
Your mirror looks great, Pam! I love the color you chose. Yellow is my favorite!
Wow, what a great idea to revisit your past DIY projects and see if you can rescue them! Your sunburst mirror looks absolutely stunning with its shiny metallic gold finish. It's great that you finally found the perfect spot for it, as it really deserves to be showcased.
I couldn't agree more with your tip about making sure you have a spot for your projects. It's so easy to get caught up in the excitement of creating something new and forget to consider where it will go once it's finished. But having a designated spot for each piece not only makes it easier to appreciate and enjoy, but also helps to keep your space organized and clutter-free.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us, and I look forward to seeing more of your DIY rescues in the future!
