mixing it up...

Are you on board with the trendy look of mismatched chairs?
I wasn't a fan, but a few of these fabulous rooms could convert me.

What do you think?
Looks like they borrowed extra chairs from the neighbor or
an eclectic mix, or whimsical touch that makes a unique statement?

I like the look most of the time. I think when you have different styles they should have a similar color or fabric to tie them all together. Great images!

They remind me of when we were first married, and had to make do with what people gave us! Or Christmas when you have to find extra chairs. I like this look as long as there is something that ties them together, like the fabric, or a group of pairs.

Hi Pam,
I have not been a fan even though your pictures are great. I think I could do two matching end chairs different from the others, but that might be it. I think a mix works if they have common lines, or color, or fabric like Tracey and Ange said.

I kind of like it. I think I like it best when there are a mix of 2 different chairs. Too many different chairs gets a little crazy for my taste. Some really pretty rooms here! xo

I like the look, but I prefer having two of the same chair at either end and then a different chair for the rest - I like that one look with the wicker at either end and then the Tolix for the rest of the chairs.

Not a fan of overall look, however, do like it when head chairs are different from all the rest. Too many different chairs looks too confusing...Sarah Richardson does it best. ;)

Hi Pam,
I don't mind mismatched chairs as long as they are not too different from each other. I think they need to be either similar style or color for my taste.

I am a big fan of mismatched chairs. I love the 4 chairs with the green herringbone fabric. I'm pinning that photo right now!!!!

Hello there, just found your blog.
I have to admit that I am really not a fan of mismatched chairs, I find it too confusing and cluttered but you found some lovely images.
Best,
Terri

I love it! Is this look coming soon to your home? Can't wait to see what you do with your chairs!

I like it too but I prefer 2 matching end chairs and different chair for the rest. Great photos!

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

I pretty much think all those assortments look like they are supposed to be that way! I WISH my neighbor had chairs like that I could borrow to get the look when entertaining! LOL!

I am not a fan of the "many" different chairs...I prefer the two matching end chairs and then the coordinating side chairs....I changed out the side chairs to my traditional Ethan Allen table to fabric chairs rather than the all wood...it really gave the room a lighter look and more added texture...great examples of the mixed chair look!

I love a mix match of things. I even mix match my plates, knobs anything that can create an artist visual of something different. You have to have a cohesive flare to it or it looks like a disaster.

I love the look! That's what I have in my dining room :) the two end chairs match and then I mix on the sides. Great images....Don't you just love Sarah Richardson!

Love the two end chairs being different. The mixed look is great for when you want to pull up one more chair to the table - that one person won't feel like the odd man out!

I think some of these are very pretty, others a bit busy for my taste.

I love the idea of it and really admire it in other people's homes. I don't think I could do it though...it might give me a panic attack. ;)

Chairs on the brain?...how are they coming along?!

Hmmm, I like a little bit of a mix but not too much of a hodge-podge. These are all great examples for the mix it up argument, though! Fun!

I am more into mismatched styles of chairs - because I use that occasionally :) - than very mismatched upholstery but then again, it would depend on the colors and patterns of the fabric. It adds a sense of casual to a space;less stuffy.

I love this look, especially with a bench/settee on the side, or wing chairs on the ends. I also love the look of metal chairs on the sides and fabric chairs on the ends (more with rectangular tables, I guess!)

I'm definitely a fan! I love mixing it up, but I think I like two types of chairs, not six different types, unless they are tied together with the same paint color or fabric.
