vote on dining room columns

Ok, back to focusing on the dining room!
I need to decide if I'm going to keep the columns and urns in there
before I can move forward with my art choices.

I love the neutral color and the texture they add,
BUT do you think they're tired looking, 90's looking or timeless?

Here are some inspiration photos and then my photo before you VOTE.

This one is much more formal than the look I'm going for.

I could always use the urns in my bookcases or fireplace.

These are mine in the dining room flanking the French doors.
(at Christmas)

With the new paint color.

Thanks for being honest, it won't hurt my feelings, I promise!

Yes! I like them. I love them at Christmas, and if you keep them I'm sure you'll do something creative and seasonal with them!

It is a classic look, timeless, not dated at all. Keep "em I say! I am checking the yes box

I say bye-bye columns. Could you put them elsewhere in the house or even put them outside in the nicer weather? Can you appreciate my honesty Pam? I hope so.

i say keep them!

I say put them away for a while and see if you miss them, if not great if so bring them back in... I also think a chippy white column is much less formal than a perfectly painted new column so it depends on the look you are going for. If it were me I'd keep chippy ones, put away anything else... but what do I know ;) - Susan

I vote to keep them but I think you need a larger urn! =o)

I'm torn. I'd say keep the columns but put something else interesting on top.... like a sculptural piece or something with more contrast like in the first photo. As for the urns, I'd definitely keep those too and plant a boxwood in them or place a large moss covered ball on them and use them as a pair somewhere else inside (or outside) your home.

I think you probably need to keep them unless you plan on adding window treatments to that french door. Those corners might look very empty without fabric panels or the columns.

I vote to keep them. I love the chippy texture and think it's a timeless look. You can change the look by adding plants or branches or some other filler to fit the season.

I like the look, but I think the urns are a bit small. It would look more balanced with bigger urns.
Then as an option you could group the bigger and smaller urns by your fireplace or doorway for a seasonal change.

Such great feedback...I agree with Diana with regard to the window treatments, etc. I also think the idea of taking them out for a bit and then deciding has a lot of merit. So too does the thought of adding larger urns...so much fun to collaborate on our projects isn't it?!

I think they're timeless. I also love the photo of the urns on the fireplace. You are tireless: nail head ceiling, painted 2 rooms, made pillows and a tray...I'm inspired!

LOVE the columns but think the urns are a little small. You are amazing. Would love to know how you have so much energy.

I agree that the urns might be a little small.. Remove the columns for a few days and think about your options. This is a tough one! I'm kinda on the fence ;)

How funny is this...great minds think alike!! You know we love them...

I like them! I think the urns would really pop with some greenery or chunky sticks in them.

I like the urns by fireplace option. I agree with some of the others though, take them out for a few days and see what you think. I also wonder if they are a tad small? But I loved the pic of all the sticks in them so maybe they just need something like that. I'm sure whatever you come up with will be great - I'm likin' your style:)

Not crazy about them...I do like the urns by the fireplace idea. Rachel Beal

I've thought about your columns throughout the day and just can't decide. I keep leaning towards painting them black???

I like the picture from Cote de Texas where the urn and column are of different colors or textures. Perhaps you could change on or the either a little so that they are each a distinctive piecce in their own right. Does that make sense? They are both great pieces, though.

Love your columns & style of urns -- I think their size is appropriate when dressed with branches like your wonderful display at Christmas.

I'd paint the columns a soft turquoise, age them a bit, & dress the urns with lots of tall thin branches depending on the season.

Loving the details.

For the purpose of wind or earthquake engineering, columns may be designed to resist lateral forces.
