I planted mine last Saturday, here is a simple how-to:
You'll need: Containers, Potting Soil and Seeds
You can purchase Red or White Winter Wheat Berries from the bulk section at a
local natural food store for about $1 - $2, this 2 lb. bag is enough to last years!
I used this bag last spring and they're still fine.
Fill containers with potting soil and sow Wheat Berry seeds.
I like the grass thick, be sure to use plenty.
Lightly cover the seeds with soil.
My soil had some larger woody pieces, no big deal.
Water well using a spray bottle.
At this point I watch over them like baby chicks for just a few days until they've sprouted,
they tend to dry out quickly. I water them very well using the spray bottle
about 3 times per day.
You can keep them in any room with light, sun isn't necessary.
After 3 days.
Do you see the cute little white wormy looking guys...sprouts! :)
After 10 - 14 days yours can look just like any of these!

Lovely idea! We planted grass in little galvanized buckets for my sister's wedding a couple years ago...we used them to line a staircase to the reception room. I was in charge of the decor, and only had about a $500 budget for everything...so this project gave a lot of bang for the buck! Your photos are beautiful and inspiring. Thanks so much!

I have not but wheat grass is the perfect texture from mother nature! I'd love to have a small centerpiece of it.

So Ive never used wheat grass for decorative reasons- but I have drank it. My mother use to grow it and juice it- we would take wheat grass shots- *shivers* it just gives me chills thinking about it-that stuff is NASTY, but it goes give you a great energy boost.
OHHHH my gosh I can't believe you posted about this today Pam! I pinned some directions yesterday and just got back from Whole Foods with my seeds! How crazy is that? I'm all excited for a long row of grass on my dining room table....if I can get these little guys to germinate! Thanks for the tutorial. Great idea for Easter Decor! I need the green and could probably use a shot of wheat grass :) It tastes terrible but it's supposed to be full of nutrients.

I have never planted wheat grass. I ordered a bunch of flower seeds from Ebay and I have a few in the the frig. per the instructions. I really hope I get some pretty blooms this year.
I did this! It's amazing! And my wheat berries had been in the fridge for at least a year. I thought I would make sprouted wheat bread, but it never happened :) Thanks for a great idea, I'll be growing this stuff everywhere now.

Hi, I love this idea and I bought some wheat grass already grown from the grocery store. Sadly, within a week or two it was wilting and then dying. I did water it several times and am left wondering if you think I over or under watered it. Any thoughts?
Amy, it's hard to say without knowing more details, I know mine in the smaller containers tend to dry out quicker and need water more often, also they like to be in the light, and look best when you cut them back before they get to long. It's so easy to grow, I hope you try it! :)
