do you have a jollifer?

~   Jollifers   ~
are sentimental things that spread a little joy every time you cast your eye upon them

A couple of months ago there was an article in the Wall Street Journal's
Design & Decorating Page, by Deborah Needleman,
author of the forthcoming "The Perfectly Imperfect Home."

10 Odd, Yet Essential, Elements of Style
#2  - Jollifers
I thought it would be fun to go through her list and see if we have the essential elements...

This is my jollifer during the holidays....
a simple gingerbread man swag, hung in my kitchen window every year.

Ms. Needleman says, "They are among the easiest decorating tools,
as they require no skill, no sophisticated understanding of color, texture or composition.
You basically set them out and like talismans, they exude their subtle power."

My jollifer was given to me by a special friend and her two daughters years ago.
It makes me smile and think of her positve attitude no matter the circumstance.

Do you have a Jollifer?

Thanks for sharing-so sweet. My jollifers are some very old ornaments that were my grandmother's. Some are cracked and a bit broken, but I cherish them and put them up every year. Also, my daughter's Christmas artwork.

Probably my ornaments...but maybe even our stockings too. Ms Needleman is quite the master at decorating - I'll have to check out that article - thanks for the tip!

Oh no, I don't think I have a jollifer. Does that mean I don't have any sentimental attachments? ha! I think I need to add Deborah's book to my Christmas list.

A jack-in-the-box stocking that my aunt made for me when I was a young child. I can't bear to sew the hole that is in it...just keep it the same every year!

My jollifer for this season is a Nativity scene my Mom gave me, Little Vine loves to put out..Then she plays with it constantly and in the process has chipped the poor thing to death..When I hear her over there I think.."oh no, I am sure Joseph has lost another arm"....Somehow, the whole thing brings me joy! I have got to check that book out, great post!
