teach me your ways sarah richardson

I've been pouring over Sarah Richardson's new book, Sarah Style, dissecting
her design. She's long been a favorite, and after analyzing her portfolio I can say
my favorite element is her fearless mix of styles.
I'm sharing a few photos from her book (which I love) along with my
old school thoughts and why I assumed the design wouldn't have worked.

*************

Old school thought:
Detailed chairs and table bases would compete with each other.

Here she mixes a variety of table styles
Old school thought:
Industrial coffee table paired with the french style side tables wouldn't work.

While I was checking out the tables I happened to notice the four upholstered chairs.
Old school thought:
This end of the room feels heavy and unbalanced vs the opposite end with
only the two small stools (scroll up to see).

This room is so interesting, six tables (including ottoman, consoles and coffee table
in bottom right corner) such a varied mix, and the two consoles are similar.
Old school thought:
Too much going on and too many styles mixed.

Such a pretty corner.
Old school thought:
Mix any two of the three styles, but not three different styles and wood tones.

Stripes and more stripes, so unexpected and it gives this neutral room some pizazz.
Old school thought:
Choose a geometric, floral or ikat instead of two stripes.

I kept noticing these stools again and again, and finally figured out they're in her line
of custom furniture. She says, "No room escapes them, they're the perfect
18" x 18" x 18" size and fit in every room and every scheme."

Do you love her style as much as I do?
If you have her book, what did you think?

I really like the room with an industrial coffee table. The color palette and the the piece definitely speak to me. I find that all the spaces have a common thread, her style can be easily recognized.
Thank you for sharing.

She is pretty amazing. I can't figure out why HGTV airs her show butt crack early in the morning and airs House Hunters during peak hours? Wouldn't logic have it the other way around? Sadly, I miss most of her episodes because I'm the only human left on earth to not have a DVR.

I love her and do have the book. At first it did not appeal to me, wasn't exciting as some design books are BUT...as I began examining the photos I starting noticing more just as you have here. Her genius was revealed loud and clear. LOL
BTW I love everything you do!!! Your ORC are always among my favorite.

Sarah is a long time favorite. I have followed her way back when she was doing a lot of the actual work herself, she is the master of combining pattern and color and keeping things edgy and real.
Hats off to Sarah Richardson and her latest book.

I frequently have my recorded Sarah Richardson shows on in the background while I blog or cook. She just keeps coming up with amazing decor and isn't afraid to mix LOTS of fabrics, something I work very hard to get better at! I just love her!

I LOVE Sarah! I've been a fan since I saw Design Inc. I will hunt down her shows on the web -they are out there to watch like Design Inc. and Room Service - if you haven't seen them look them up! I love how she mixes old and new and styles. She is fearless at breaking the design school rules yet she makes it work. I have her book and just love it. Her website is fantastic as well.. - http://www.sarahrichardsondesign.com/
I follow her on FB and Pintrest and she is open to answering questions from her fans. Can you tell I love her!!

I read Sarah Richardson's new book and I really liked it. I love design. This is my hobby. But it is very difficult to combine your favorite activities with studying at the university. But thanks to BestEssay I was able to pass a term paper and several essays in a short period of time. Experts helped me with writing the text and I understood where I made mistakes.

Yeah, It's an amazing view and all the things that are present in the room look unique and attractive. I have this kind of pleasant room when I start to give University Essay Writing Service Online and students can submit their projects on time without taking any stress.
