erin gate's cabinet on my craigslist...

Yep, it's true! It was early January, I immediately recognized the piece in the Craigslist ad
as Erin's of Elements of Style. She's one of my favorite designers and I'd recently been
captivated by her striking Christmas decor. Coincidentally, 'the cabinet' that anchored that
stunning room showed up on our Craigslist. I went and saw it and passed :( it was in ok
shape,  but needed some repair for a door to close properly and was overall in worse condition
than I'd hoped for. I'd forgotten all about it until yesterday when I saw it on the cover of her
new book, Elements of Style Designing a Home & A Life (to be released in October).
I'm just kicking myself!!!

Would you have recognized it? They had a funky piece covering the top.
Btw, I think it was around $100 and the seller asked what I'd be willing to pay when I
balked at the condition. : (

Her cabinet through the years, with different interior colors...

And her infamous Christmas decor...

I'd say it's my biggest Craigslist regret.
Do you have one?

That is a beautiful cabinet. I still deem you the best craigslister ever!

Oh darn! Oh well, you're a one-of-a-kind kind of girl anyway.

You have a good eye for CL finds. I really need to spend more time on there (or do I?). Cannot wait to read Erin's book!

Oooh - that one would haunt me too - such an amazing piece. But...you have found so, so many amazing finds on CL that your win/loss records is still pretty stellar :)

Oh, I have many CL regrets. But my biggest, is the elephant console table that I have been dreaming of for years. There it was...in PERFECT condition, and I had nowhere to put it. Obviously I did not know we were moving back then. I'm still thinking about it.

Ahh, the one that got away! I love Erin's style too and was just oogling that cover yesterday! She actually has a pair of my DR wingbacks that I redid, so when I saw those I knew I was on the right track! My biggest regret is a fabulous big gold ornate carved mirror that I could never quite connect with the seller on. I can still see it in my entry today! Someday I'll find another...

LOve the cabinet and I can see why you regret not getting it!
I have a couple of those regrets as well ;)

I'm not surprised you are kicking yourself Pam, that is one gorgeous cabinet. I love how Erin has moved it around and dressed it up over the years. Thanks for the introduction to Erin's blog.
Happy Springtime! Paul

I can't believe that was on Craigslist! We never have good stuff on ours. I'm obsessed with her living that's decorated for Christmas, too. When I first saw it I considered chucking everything in my living room and starting over!

What a bummer! I have so many craigslist regrets. RIght now there's a pair of nightstands I really want but they're an hour away. They've been listed for MONTHS, and every now and then I check to make sure they're still for sale. :) If they ever go away, I'll be so sad. So it's basically a regret-in-the-making.

ohhhh I love that cabinet, might have had to snag that one and repair it. Her Christmas room was the best ever. Have a great day! xo Nancy

LOL! I am a Craigslist fiend! I buy things just in case! For example, I already have MORE than enough beds in the house BUT there is a french caned twin bedroom suite (an entire suite for goodness sake) on the local Craigslist AND(!) a Baker French secretary that originally cost $12k and is now a mere $1,000! Now I just have to convince my husband that the secretary we already own isn't as nice as this one! :)
Stuff ebbs and flows on Craigslist and there is always another opportunity.
Nonetheless, I buy it and later on I sell it!
There is a bit of the hoarding gene in me, I'm afraid!

We don't get that neat of stuff on our Craigslist. And I would have had to let it go too if it needed that much work - my hubby wouldn't have let me get it. But I can certainly see why you are regreting it now. Bummer. Maybe it will show up again?!

Been there done that. I have even sold pieces I owned thinking I would find something I liked better only to wish I'd kept them and refinished/reupholstered them. Oh well, live and learn I suppose.

She's one of my favorites too! I saw a beautiful chandelier on Craigslist once and have always regretted not getting it. I could have gone that night but waited until the next day and of course it had already sold! :(

Oh, I have many Craigslist and or thrift store regrets too! I love her style but I have to say I love your emerald buffet table even better!

So MANY Craigslist regrets: French country dining set, upholstered ottoman with braiding and pleats, bookcases with roping and beautiful carving, etc. My house is small. My studio is overflowing. My storage unit packed. I did snag some designer ($1,200) chairs for $300 each for a client. Kicking myself I didn't keep them! ADDICTED TO CL!

I don't know if I would have recognized it - you have a pretty amazing CL eye. I have a big CL regret from last week - an amazing pair of English roll arm chairs for a STEAL. And I kind of dawdled over the decision...and then they were gone. I've been obsessing over it all week!

Shirley@Housepitality Designs said...

Oh I know you would have turned that into a beauty...yes, just one regret, a settee that I waited too long to decide upon....I guess it was just not meant to be!...Love that black and white chair!

Aaaaaggghh! I can understand why your 'kickin' yourself about this one that got away Pam. Luckily none for me yet because the craigslist in my area sucks.
