one room challenge...week 4

I saw this headboard come up on Craigslist back in August,
it was right after I had read about The Kingdom Mirror here,
and my mind was reeling at the thought of this being similar.
I was beside myself waiting for a reply to my email. It finally came through and I talked Mr.
Simple into renting a Home Depot truck and driving an hour with me to pick it up.
The red wasn't my favorite, but I loved that it was so unique and would work with more modern pieces to give me that mix I'm fond of. I knew a little paint could take care of the red.

We arrived at this HUGE home overloaded with antique gilded French furniture like I've
never seen. How I wish I could have taken photos for you! You know I LOVE my gold, but
this was overkill big-time! The older couple that lived here had lived in Paris and had
purchased much of the furniture there. I stopped inquiring about items after they told me
the dining table was $10,000 - chairs not included.
Back to the headboard...it was listed at $375, from Switzerland and hand carved.
 I was so disappointed!
It was much smaller than I'd anticipated and didn't have quite the dimension I was expecting.
So I talked them down to $275 and off we went.

Mr. Simple:   "Wow, that was the best acting job I've ever seen, way to get the price down!"

Me:   I wasn't acting, it's not what I imagined, I don't think I like it.

Mr. Simple: Silence

Me:  It'll be ok, I was just hoping for it to be a little more Kingdom like.

Mr. Simple:  What?

I figured out how to hang it so the top is 77" above the floor. I worked on painting it this week,
 which still needs some tweaking.

The faux ostrich came in for my Ikea Rast hack, and I found brass hardware at the Re-Store, they have a great selection for $1.50 each if you have time to sift through.

 Finished spray painting the fan.
You know my boys loved standing on the bed being my painting booth! :)
Crazy, but it was much easier than taking it apart.

Brought home a couple styles of full length mirrors to try, they'll be going behind the
nightstands. I snapped a selfie for you, this has nothing to do with ORC, but I think a side
pony is kinda fun these days. :)

I have a boatload of projects to complete, and just found out one of my
fabrics is back ordered till December. Yikes!

Go see what these fabulous ladies are up to this week!

First of all could you be any cuter? I hope that is not your usual DIYing attire, because you put the rest of us to shame looking so chic while doing the most amazing projects! Love how the headboard turned out, you definitely have the vision!

You have totally transformed the headboard, Pam! It looks like it has some history even after you have changed the look. I love the spray painting prop - I could use that kind of screen/support.

The best part of this post is that selfie….love the side pony and you!! So cute!
Ok the headboard….I thought of the Kingdom mirror as soon as I saw it! It's so cool against your geometric stencil on the wall. Your boys ARE good sports 1) driving to get your headboard and 2) being your painting assistants!!!

I gasped! Your Swiss Miss is gorgeous! I love all of the upholstered headboards seen on the blogs, but it is great to see something so pretty and unique. Great tip for pretty hardware too. It all looks so very Pam. (You could pass for 25 year old).

The new headboard is an O M G !!! Your vision to put it against the stenciled wall in gold is beautiful and with the ostrich?.... Killer! I'm a newer follower and I'm liking your style... a lot. Been in the interior design business myself for a long time. The creative side is never much work, is it? It's just getting it to the finish line! Can't wait to see the completed room!
