please tell me i'm not alone...

I see inspiration, and on a whim before I even have time to think about how
crazy it would be to start another new project I'm knee deep into it...you too? :)

Want to see it?  Of course, it's not finished I just started this afternoon!

Warning:  To my artist friends, it would probably be best if you just skipped this
post today, I'm sure you'll be cringing or laughing.

I LOVE abstracts, but I knew I couldn't paint one, so I decided to take an old one
I had and paint over it...sounds easy enough...ha!

The beginning...with my sophisticated tools, I used my fingers to paint and I thought the
blow dryer would spread the paint giving it the watercolor look. Nope, it made the squiggles.

Sorry, bad lighting the colors aren't so muddy.

Hmm...I think I'll go for more purple...

Oops...not quite what I had in mind.  I know I need to keep layering, and it's
looking a tad foreboding, I'll lighten it up a bit...like the white I painted over.
Maybe more watercolor look vs. finger paint look?

Any suggestions? I'm really no painter, and I haven't a clue.

Have you started any projects on whim lately?

You definitely are not alone! I could start a support group for project jugglers. The difference is- you get them done. What a great idea to change out an abstract. It will look pretty with your painted rug.

The one who has the most unfinished projects, wins! I love the colors you are using. I don't have any suggestions, because I am afraid to try an abstract.

That's the way my brain works as well! No suggestions from me either except I liked it when there was more blue/green and less purple:) Not bad at all, my dear!

Having the right colors is half the battle. Yours are great. Mine always get worse before they get better. Hang in there, friend!

You are so awesome, just go for it! When you wake up in the morning, you will see it with fresh eyes. That is one thing I have learned with painting. Also do not paint at night if possible. I have made more mistakes at night. Daylight is beautiful light. Find some inspiration, perhaps on Pinterest. Great idea to use an old canvas. Also do not ask the men in the house for opinions unless they are artistic! The painting has to feel and look right to you!

Pam, check out the work of Michelle Armas and Sally King Benedict for inspiration. Their work is on Pinterest.

I kind of like the muddy/murky look to the one photo. I've had all intentions of getting my inner artist on but haven't had a chance - maybe this weekend or next.

I am no painter, but I like what you are doing. I do start projects on a whim though! That's what makes it so much fun. Thanks for your visit and comment.

Pretty good for not being an artist. When I don't know what to do next I put it in a place where I can look at it and view it for a couple of days. You will figure out if its done or not.

I've thought about doing this myself but haven't actually done it yet. I have no suggestions for you at all, but I say keep working at it. If it's anything like painting a piece of furniture, you just keep adding until it looks right.

I love the yellow to the side….the sun will come out tomorrow? Bet your bottom dollar! That's what it makes me think of…..a storm that is passing, and the sun is coming out! I like it just as it is right now. I'm not much of any artist but I do find that it's good to come back with fresh eyes and add and change a painting. An artist I used to babysit for would work on 10 different paintings a day, tweaking each one just a bit, coming back the next day and working on each one again until it felt right and "done".

I love your enthusiasm Pam...I can't wait to see your painting on the wall. I am constantly switching from one project to another and then will sit down at my computer and forget that I was even working on something...I think it's called ADD.

I keep thinking I'm going to alter a piece of artwork! I've seen some cool ways to repaint parts of a picture to make it something new. And I'm still thinking about digging out my old oil paints and painting the flowers in that fall pic white!! I'm just afraid I'd ruin it and hate it. Also afraid getting the oils out might start up that addiction again!!!

Love the colors and not bad for not being an artist! - You should see some things I have attempted! And I am the same way...I get an idea and then all of a sudden I am in the middle of ten projects!

I tried my hand at it also and realize that it is not something I am good at. Hat's off to all of the artist who make it look easy :) I think I'll keep my day job!

Thanks for capturing your step by step and sharing it. I've been pretty enthusiastic about abstract painting as well (even got an easel for xmas), the only thing is .... i suck at it (umm, 'thus far'). I skipped painting on mounted canvas and opted for painting on canvas sheet <-- more economical until I ummm become better :) I've painted w/my fingers as well (I look the feel of it), it just looks better on my fingers than on canvas (LOL). Last month I experimented using acrylic paint + spray bottle (water) and liked the look .... now to only fit time to 'master' a look into my schedule!!!
