dated armoire anyone...

I'm betting a few of you may have a dated armoire.
I loved mine, I'd close the doors and like magic...the TV disappeared!
It's still hanging around, but made it's way to the basement with all the special items
I keep because they were expensive or sentimental, or because
I love the hardware (that's a good reason to keep it, right?)!

Have you ever thought of tweaking yours or re-purposing it?
A  handyman could easily make some of these simple changes.

Glass inserts in the doors and 'X' moulding.

Great ideas here. I am helping a client with designing a drinks cupboard - I think you may have provided the perfect design! x Sharon

Yes, we have an armoire, a country pine one from the 1980"s, can't part with it! This post has me thinking! Love the dark charcoal one and the light grey with the round hardware,

I miss TV's housed in those lovely armoires.... so much nicer to be able to tuck them away out of sight. Love your repurposing inspiration.... my favorites are the bars!

As one who is constantly reinventing the wheel, I wish I had an armoire hidden away. Absolute am amazed at all the fantastic ideas you showed!

Yes! I have a massive oak armoire in my bedroom that my dad MADE. It's still a great piece but it does need a little something. One of the pieces I'm trying to figure out for my bedroom redo. You've got my wheels turning!

I have an uncle who's always trying to unload his armoire on me. Maybe I should forward him your post!

I WISH I had one! I need to find one to store all my fabric in. I want one I can redo with chalk or milk paint. what I REALLY want is the one MMS just redid and has for sale. Perfect size, look I love, already painted grey and white, great price. but my hubby isn't thrilled with the idea of travelling to Pa to get it. bummer.

Fabulous ideas for repurposing! I have 2 armoires that could use an update. I need to get busy!

Great ideas! I bet there are a LOT of old TV armoires floating around out there.

Thank you for this post. I have one 20 years now sitting in unused room and with these ideas...Oh! Boy! the thought of converting it to a compact office is perfect.

Terrific ideas Pam. I especially love the soft gray with the brass details. I used to have two armoires, but no longer have them...Too bad, they would be fun to repurpose after all of your inspiration

I love all of these and have never really understood why people think they went out of style. I have one in my living room that stores all of my desk stuff. I don't know what I would do without it! Maybe it was the pine of the 80's that made them too ubiquitous for a while. But there's hope for even those!

Love this post because it gives me some good ideas. My parents gave us a beautiful old armoire, which we don't what to do with it! I think a bar idea is brilliant!

Great ideas Pam! I have 2 of them and love both of them, but don't use either one for our TVs. Thanks for the ideas.

We have reused ours as a bar and now an office…it's great for housing the computer and the printer, plus paper, etc. Love the idea of down the road, have glass inserted into the doors, as well as shelves, and making it into a library cabinet like that first photo you shared!

These are amazing examples of armoires...I have one in our bedroom that hides the TV too...It is an Ethan Allen piece...so I am not sure if I could go the distance and change it...maybe one day!!...However, I am looking for piece for my craft area and you have given me some great ideas!!...Great post Pam!

I do not have one, but I've seen a bunch on Craigslist that I wouldn't mind getting my hands on and fixing up! Trouble is figuring out where I would put one in my house.

Pam, this post really got me thinking about painting our old pine(not antique) armoire. I keep coming across mentions of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and waxes. Have you ever worked with it? I have only painted small pieces of furniture like stools and little tables. wondering if I should tackle the armoire.

It seems they are so bug it's hard to think about getting rid of them! Repurposing it is a much better idea....love some of these solutions.
