My Five Favorites ~ Valentine's Day, The Classy But Lazy Way

Happy February friends!
This month My Five Favorites is all about Valentine's Day,
food, decor, traditions ~ anything goes, so I'm anxious to see what my friends are sharing.
In case you're wondering about my title :) I do love adding a few touches around
the house and making my boys feel special but I'm just not big on a lot of Valentine
decorations ~ a few simple nods to the holiday that don't take more
than a few minutes and I'm set.

I'm excited to welcome our guest this month, Ann @ On Sutton Place. There's not much she
doesn't do, her beautiful blog is a treasure of pretty spaces, gardening, recipes and free
printables including these for Valentine's Day!

On Sutton Place

#1 ~ Red Books

I love using all my books with red bindings for a simple, classic touch that's not
overly Valentiney. :)
Stack them on a chair, bench or small stool instead of the usual coffee table or buffet.

To keep it super easy, I don't even re-style my cabinet, just replace a few of the books
with red ones.

#2 - X & O Initials & Candy

I found these gold X & O initials a few years ago on the clearance rack at
Hobby Lobby, they still sell them. This year I added them to my kitchen
vignette. I also love the fun touch they add to place settings.
Super simple ~ a clear container filled with candy for a festive pop of color.

#3 - Faux Brass Heart

An oldie DIY project from the Dollar Store...but I still pull it out every year,
I love that it's so easy to plop down in any vignette.

#4 - Do Ahead Valentine Dessert

I love that this decadent dessert can be put together the day before (in about 10 min)
and just popped in the oven and served warm for a delicious Valentine surprise.

#5 - Donut you know I love you...

My boys love this simply sweet Valentine tradition for breakfast ~
powdered sugar donuts served with a clever sentiment on my chalkboard.

Be sure and check out these talented friends' favs:

I'm with you on the subtle nod to Valentines Day. I love how you can change up your cabinet with the seasons.....the red books really pop in there! I hope your sweet pup will be gracing the blog for Valentines Day this year by the way - it's a tradition isn't it? <3

I'm with Ann - the red books idea is brilliant. So simple - definitely a "why didn't I think of that thing!". And every year I forget to do your fun donut tradition - this year I'm doing it!!

I simply buy red flowers. They signify Valentine to me. But, after seeing your red books, I'm going to go through my stash of old books & use some for Valentine decorating. So simple... yet I never thought of it! Thank you, Pam!

I can attest that your dessert is the very best! I made this a few years ago when you published it.
After showing it to my husband a little while ago, he asked if I would please make it again this year! Of course!

I'm always inspired by your pretty and fun traditions! (And the red works for Chinese New Year too!)

Just yesterday I saw some wood letters, "x" and "o" on sale in the art department bookstore at the local university. I'll be there in the morning to purchase some, spray with gold paint, antique a little and put it in the valentine vignette on the lowboy in my dining room! Thanks!

I have a date soon and I'm looking for options on how to dress for a date. Thanks for your blog and your recommendations.

What I love about online dating is that you don't have to worry about how to dress for a date, worry about how it's going to go, etc. You just chat online and enjoy that communication. That's when the awkwardness period in your communication is over, you can move on to real communication. I always start my relationships this way, so I know what I'm talking about.
