emerald green dresser makeover...

This could be my favorite dumpster dive makeover yet!
You all know I was so apprehensive when I popped open that can of paint,
but I'm so happy I went for it!

One of my favorite blogging friends, Jennifer at Dimples and Tangles, inspired me. She has
injected stylish, and lively doses of color throughout her home in the most unique ways.
Remember the surprise I mentioned...we're doing a double dose of green reveals for you
today! We've both been plugging away on our dining rooms forever and she's been hard at
work on a  Craigslist hutch makeover in Behr's Pine Scent here. I'm always blown away by her
projects and should also mention she's the all-time sweetest! We haven't seen each others
redos yet! Also, since we're sharing green transformations, I ran across this fabulous redo
in Benjamin Moore's Emerald Isle by Kelly at A Swell Place to Dwell here.

Last year when I showed you my brown dining room and the plans for updating
I listed a few elements I wanted to include...color, pattern, rug, art, and a more modern look.
I love that the updated dresser, turned buffet, gives the room a fun punch of color and
a modern feel, but works with my traditional pieces, farm table, and
the Craigslist chairs I painted and reupholstered

That was a long intro...I'll just get to the photos...

Remember last August...I saw it on a sidewalk....
Mr. Simple wheeled it home for me...uphill
...thank you, hon!

I think the IKEA hardware makes the modern statement I was going for.
More details about how I achieved the look in tomorrow's tutorial.

I framed an abstract black and white fabric, it helps balance the black shades and
adds a little edge to the traditional crystal lamps and ornate French mirror.

I used polka dot wrapping paper to line a lucite tray for a fun whimsical touch.
A favorite personal photo, old books and an orchid.

Did you know the top was laminate? Yep, you can successfully paint right over it,
with a few simple steps!

A mix of pillows I made, white bunny fur and a large floral paired with
the Vermicelli on the head chairs.

The color, Behr's Precious Emerald, adds some pizzazz, but still looks rich.

I'm most excited about all the different looks that this piece will lend itself to,
along with my neutrals in the room the possibilities are endless. I can't wait to host Easter!
It's been a fun project and I hope you're inspired to pick up an inexpensive piece
of furniture and try your hand at painting it a BOLD color.

Tutorial and details coming tomorrow, and don't forget to visit

that color looks good enough to eat! you really knocked it out of the ballpark on this one pam...wonder what the "old" owner would think now if they could see their free dresser...a true trash to treasure makeover. your entire dining room looks like it should be in a magazine.

Lisa @ Shine Your Light said...

Oh my gosh - amazing!!!!!!!!! What a before and after Pam! Your dining room looks straight out of a magazine - beautiful, chic, fun. That dresser just tops it all off - it's hard to believe now that it was a freebie! The hardware makes such an impact - I love your creative take on how to place it. Just beautiful!

You go girl, that is the perfect infusion of color for your DR! The piece turned out magnificently as I was confident it would. Love the hardware and of course the styling is "all that." And then to add free to the equation....oh my!

Hi Pam,
Looks like you did a great job. You would never guess it was the same dresser. Love the style you created with the hardware from Ikea.

I am so glad you didn't let your fears get the best of you. It turned out amazing. Honestly, I don't think I can gush enough!

Even more stunning than I pictured! Great choice on the hardware, it looks perfect. I can't tell you how much I love this addition to your dining room. It whispers "notice me!" and it deserves it! Your styling is impeccable as usual and the black accents really help ground everything. One questions for tomorrow's post...it doesn't look like it had legs when you wheeled it home. Did you add those? And they're gold...love that too! Working through this project with you made it so much more fun. Thanks, friend!
