paint a rug party...

I'm excited and a tad nervous for this 'Paint a Rug Party,' usually I tell you what I'm going to
do and if I mess up big time I just hold off sharing until I have it worked out, or for eternity! :)

Well, Linda from My Crafty Home Life had a fun idea to have a group of bloggers
paint a rug, and there are rules.... it's her party and she'll have rules if she wants to...
you have to post...good or bad!
I've never painted a rug before, unless you count my monogram door mat here but
I'm thinking spray paint isn't going to be the best way to go about it, actually I haven't
figured out what is best, so wish me luck...or give me your tips!

The Inspiration:

I loved this suzani runner I saw in the Grandinroad catalog, the $250 price tag - not so much!

The materials:

I found these free download suzani templates online from Lowe's Creative Ideas here.
I had them enlarged at Fed Ex Kinkos at 250% for $10.

This was the best option I came up with to transfer the stencil to plastic.
The printing shop wanted $36 for theirs, so I cruised around Hobby Lobby not sure what
I would find - bingo!  It is a large heavy duty polypropylene protective pocket,
I can cut it apart to get 2 pieces, each 22 x 30, it was $11 with my 40% off coupon.

The Rug:
Ikea - Hessum  - $24.99
2' 7" x 6' 7"
Natural fibers with a flat weave - easy for painting, I hope!

Check back next Thursday to see what colors I've decided on and my progress!

These bloggers are in on the Paint a Rug Party too, just click on their name to go
check out their inspiration!

Pam,

Check out the almost(now over) 40 year old intern's blog(address below) - she is the blog world's queen of painting Ikea rugs and has great tips on materials to use and techniques.

Can't wait to see how this turns out!

Rock it Pam! And great tip on those transfers. This is something that could save lots of $$ that I've thought about, but who I am kidding I have no time for any more projects.
