brick herb markers

Another quick, easy and free project for you!
Actually, I did this two years ago.
I took a couple photos, because at the time I was thinking, "Someday when I'm more
technical I'll start a blog."  Ha! I'm proof you can do this without being computer savvy!

I was at a charming little garden boutique and saw these for $10 each,
I thought, "No way, it's writing on a brick!"

Mine have been in the garden for two years, through blazing sun, hail storms and snow the
writing has worn to this faded shade.

Using a pencil print your word on a brick and go over it with a permanent marker.

To achieve the decorative writing, put a triangle at the beginning and end of each letter.
Concentrate or your triangle will be upside down...check out the top of my 'c!'  :)

This is what they looked like the first year, if you prefer a faded look, lightly rub over the
writing with a fine grit sandpaper.

Remember when I showed you ideas for using your broken pot in the garden.
There's mine on the right, nestled into the dirt next to my mint plant, which will soon be large
enough to cover the empty cavern and fill the area around the pot.

Projects that deliver instant gratification are always good!
The potting bench is ending up being a delayed gratification project,
I'm still stripping and scraping!

I actually like the faded, aged look. What a cute addition to a garden, and would be great spread out also to identify veggies or other plants. Your mint WILL grow like crazy!

Such a fun touch. I've added them to my list of things to copy! Thanks for always sharing.

These are so cool! It might be fun to use them as name cards for the different kinds of things that you can grow in your garden.

That is a great DIY project! I like your easy fancy font too. And your broken pot turned out looking great too! Hmmm. I might have to break a pot - LOL!

I love how you can find a clever use for anything. I'm hoping to have a potted herb garden on my tiny terrace in Switzerland! Do you think the movers will think I'm crazy if I ask them to pack bricks?! :)

Love this idea, Pam! Your broken pot planter is pretty neat too!

You just took me down memory lane. My mom used to pick fresh mint and put it in our tea when we were little...hadn't thought about that in years! Have fun stripping! Oh, that sounds kind of funny ;)

I always see cute things for the yard but I always think they are overpriced - this is a fun update for a fraction. My yard is so neglected - this time last year I had everything planted, weeded, trimmed, the works. Maybe this weekend.

I so want a broken-ish pot for our garden after seeing yours (better be careful what I wish for!) but I love the character it adds!

Very creative and cute. It would be perfect for a garden of herbs.

You are so clever! I love these!

I need these, because although I know which herb is which, poor husband just stands there looking puzzled when I ask him to bring something in!

These are perfect for the garden! I love the look of brick and rock.

here I go loving you and your blog again! Almost every idea I see that you share I slapy myself on the forehead and say, "Why didn't I think of THAT?" I am in awe of the simple classic design that is your style! (What a great name for a blog/duh!). Now, have I actually TRIED any of your ideas? Well, here's where I tap dance outta that one! No time, forget the inspiration, get a case of 'who am i kidding' here and lose my confidence, etc, and NOThING gets done. Someday, some RAINY day, i promise myself I will sit and go thru your blog and make a note of what I want to do. If only I knew what Pinterest was all about... but that is a whole 'nother project!

I am so going to do this, I have a zillion spare bricks from my garage extension being built at the moment and feel so bad throwing them in the bin when they can be recyled somehow. I think your C looks like the devil pitchfork type style ;)

I suggest testing the how permanent your markers are before you use it to mark all of your plants. I thought this up myself about eight years ago and used it to mark over 100 new, named daylilies. All the markings faded away before the summer was over and I no longer know the names of any of my daylilies. It was very disappointing.

I made these markers using some old bricks. I used paint. Mine are not as nice, you did a nice job but they are posted on my blog today with a "dump cake" dessert. Thank you for the idea Love them. andi thewednesdaybaker

I LOVE this idea, especially because I was looking for a way to mark my rows and I have a ton (probably literally) of old red schoolhouse bricks. Thank you! Pinning this.
