artwork and new project

                                                          Long story....short

Since my kitchen is pretty traditional my goal is to incorporate a few more modern,
casual pieces and after looking at the poster photos over and over and reading your comments
I decided unframed would give me the look.

FAIL #1

I wanted to mount it on canvas, I read several tutorials and decided on using double stick
tape around the edges of the canvas.  Nope tape didn't adhere to the canvas!

FAIL #2
No problem, I'll try one of the several mod podge tutorials.

*  Apply mod podge to canvas
*  Place poster on top making sure any wrinkles were smoothed out
*  Weight it down with books overnight

I was so excited Sunday morning, when I removed the books the back side of the canvas
looked smoooooth!  Turned it over - NOT so much!

FAIL #3

I decided to peel it off the canvas and mount it on wood as suggested in another tutorial (using a couple scrap pieces of poster as a test)

1)  Mounted one piece with double sided tape

2)  Mounted other piece with hot glue gun

3)  One other tutorial suggested applying water on the entire poster to remove wrinkles,
you can see I tried that, too!

4)  After mounting brush with mod podge

Here you have it!

This one on the top is looking promising, yay!

                                                        No way, it's bubbling!!

                                                      I'm done, for now!
(As soon as the posters are 50% off I'm getting another one!)

I'm like a fish out of water without a project, so...here's what's next

I got one coat on today.  I'm using the Rustoleum High Gloss Enamel that
I loved on my coffee table redo here.
I'm planning on some pretty gold accents.

If you have any tips for the poster I'd love your advice!

Sorry I don't have any tips. I do love your table painted black!

Oh Pam!! So sorry mounting the poster didn't work out!!

I do think the bubbles subside on most surfaces after the mod podge dries completely, but it might have something to do with the board....if it has any texture I imagine air might get trapped in there. If you go this route again, you can use a rubber brayer to push out most of the bubbles, and also use a sewing needle to make a tiny prick in the bubbles and then smooth over it with the brayer. That's my experience with good old mod podge!

Another idea: spray the back of the poster with spray adhesive (I have a can of 3M I just used for a project) and then mount the board squarely on top of it. The adhesive is super sticky so if you go this route you might want to enlist the help of a friend, because once the poster sticks to something it's hard to reposition. You can have the board cut to the exact size of the poster at Lowes/Home Depot and pre-paint the edges.

The table came out great!!! You crack me up that you moved on to Project B!

Oh no ... I'm sorry the poster mounting didn't work as planned. I've used the 3M spray adhesive Lisa mentioned above with good results.

Your little black table is beautiful! I can't wait to see the gold accents on it.

I'm tackling a paint project with that stinky stuff today too! For your poster...maybe you could use 2 pieces of plexiglass like Jenny (LGN) did with her wallpaper panels?

Spray adhesive as the others have suggested, then top with a Liquitex gel medium to give it a finish. You can google for more info - I've read the Liquitex cures fully as opposed to Modge Podge which does not. Good luck! I have a similar project that I've been deferring! All my research is done - I've just been a chicken little so my work has not yet begun!

Ok, so that table should make you feel a lot better about the poster project, right? Because it looks fabulous. I'm sad about the poster but you'll be able to get another one hopefully and get the look that you want.

I've had trouble with mod podge too. Tricky stuff. Bummer. Next time will be a winner - I just know it!!

FYI - The tutorials I tried were Jenny from Little Green Notebook, she suggested the double sided tape on canvas and wood. Also, Courtney from A Thoughtful Place, her wrinkles went away, mine just didnj't. Also, Beckie from Infarrantly Creative, followed hers to a T???

I'm wondering if my paper is too thick, it's very heavy duty, you'd think the opposite, no clue???

aw Pam, you tried almost everything! I hate it when that happens. Good luck, I feel like the next try will do it!!! :)

What I love about blogging....the moral support and helpful tips as shown by the responses here! You go Pam, there is most definitely a solution...I say practice with something else until you get it right, then use the poster. In the meantime, LOVE the table, and the gold accents will be to die for!

Spray adhesive? It's so light I would think there is not enough to bubble? I know exactly how you feel with project fails btw....

Try SPRAY ADHESIVE.

Sorry about all the hiccups with the floral print - it can be frustrating. MP is not the best for all projects; I would try spray adhesive. Experiment with something that you are going to dispose of before you use your pretty posters.

Glad you are getting advice on having this work next time, because it was a great idea and excellent choice of posters. It'll look great!

I like Lisa's idea of spray adhesive! Sorry that there were some problems with the other ways! That has been my trouble lately too! One day, maybe I can get through a project on first attempt! You are not alone! :) It will be beautiful when it's all done! And your table looks amazing!
