diy black lacquer-like table

Good Morning, hope you all enjoyed a spring like weekend. We woke up to
a dusting of snow yesterday, luckily my lilacs weathered it fine,
because I had a plan for them!

BEFORE

AFTER

I love this hidden pull out tray and bottom drawer.

Perfect for a beverage.

The Product:
Rustoleum Protective Enamel - Gloss Black
Anita's Metallic Craft Paint Classic Gold
Purdy Paint Brush

The Price:
Rustoleum Enamel - $10/quart - I used about 1/3
Anita's Metallic Paint - I had

The Prep:
Per Rustoleum instructions I gave it a light sand with 150 grit sand paper,
sprayed it down with water (squirt bottle) and dried.

The Painting:
I used 2 coats of Rustoleum Enamel, allowing 24 hours drying time between coats.
Dark paint going over a dark finish eliminated the 3rd coat I've done in the past.
Between coats I gave it a light sand with very fine 220 grit sand paper and wiped
it clean removing all particles.
After the second coat dried I used a child size paint brush for the gold details.

The Problems:
None!  I do have a tip though, the black paint is much less forgiving than other
colors and will show every imperfection in your wood,
my piece was in good condition to begin with.

I mentioned it before, this paint makes me HAPPY!

If you haven't tried it and like a high gloss finish I highly
recommend you find something to paint...today!

oooo it looks amazing! We had lilacs at our house in Winston and I miss the sweet spring blooms. Love your makeover.

That's a handsome table, Pam! And happy to see your lilacs survived too. My Mom has some lilacs that I always enjoyed growing up - I might have to take a few snips next time I'm up there.

High gloss finish?? Yes, please. Looking around my apartment as we speak to see what needs it. And the lilacs are gorgeous!

This looks perfectly done, Pam. Very pretty vignette, too. I have not used enamel paint yet but should give it a try soon. We had summer-like weather over the weekend and today it is supposed to hit 86 degrees with allergies through the roof!

..I meant lacquer (not enamel), of course!

Love this Pam! I have a table in my LR that I have thought about painting black....now that I have seen this and gotten your endorsement of the Rust-oleum enamel, I think I'll add that to my list. Perhaps I'll get to it by early 2014!!!

Perfection...but in my house it would take about 3.7 seconds for that to look all dusty! LOVE the finish! Hmmm, wonder what I could try that on.

I love a high gloss finish! I'm debating one on my breakfast table, but really would have to balance it with something more rustic since the overall tone of my house is a mix... Hmm... Maybe just on the coffee table.

I LOVE this little table! Seriously - I might steal it - so watch out! ;)

I've used that exact paint on our front door, some inlay on some mirrors above our fireplace....it really is such a pretty finish! Love the outcome here.
