it was love at first sight!

I thought it would be fun to do a weekly series sharing the transformation of our home.
We've lived here for 15 years, and completed a remodel 5 years ago,
while living in our delightful 1938 basement for 6 months...can you say f-u-n!!

 So, without further ado...
Chapter 1

Here is the gem I found, if only I had a picture of mr. simple's expression
when we drove up and I said, "I LOVE it!"
I'm sure he was having second thoughts about his wife of three months.
I don't think I've ever mentioned it, but handy, diy and power tools aren't in his DNA!

As they say, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."

View looking from the front porch out to the street.
Have you ever seen such a beautiful mess of jungle, weeds and trees?
All I saw was that gorgeous flagstone walkway and those massive landscape rocks!
(you saw them, right?)

A few months later...

A year and a half later...

Two years later...view from front porch out to the street.
mr. simple gets credit for the lawn and garden!

Today...

So, would you have run in opposite direction bought a beautiful new home
or
paid more than asking price to insure you had a project for years to come?

I can understand why you loved it. We too like houses that require work, so that we can make them our own. It seems to terrify some people though, and they like them all fixed up and ready to move in. Where's the fun in that?!

I love your house. You have made an amazing transformation. So classic and inviting. I would prefer it over a new home any day, especially if I had your talents!

Your neighbors must love you. So beautiful. You and Mr. Simple have made it a gem!

You definitely found a diamond in the rough! I can't believe how much better your first transformation picture looks, but the original to today changes are incredible. Surely those pictures need to be in a magazine!

I think your home had great bones and you had the vision to see that! It's wonderful! You have lovely taste!

Your home is gorgeous and I love your landscaping! My parents bought a house that I lived in during college that my sister lives in now- it was def. a fixer upper complete with leaky basement and jungle yard. It's now seeing much better days! I want your tulips, by the way! Beautiful.

Pam I love a home that requires a little TLC! What a BEAUTIFUL transformation, your grounds are stunning!!

So typical that you can see the beauty beneath all that overgrown landscape. That is one of your greatest strengths!

Hi Pam,
Love what you have done with the home. It must have been hard living in the basement for that long. We did a kitchen reno a few years ago and had hardwood extended through our main level. We only had to partially live in the basement for 3 months. We still had all the bedrooms on the second floor we could go to. My husband is not handy with tools either, so I can picture what his look would be if I wanted the same house. Love what you have done with the landscaping, it it beautiful. (along with the rest of your home)

Such a charming home Pam! You and Mr. Simple have certainly worked your magic on it. My first home was a 1940"s Cape Cod that we updated over the years so seeing your home brings back happy memories.

That is a remarkable transformation. I'm sure it involved a lot of blood sweat and tears....and love and patience...and it shows!

You've done a beautiful job with the transformation. And, it was worth all the effort wasn't it.

Pam, I had to keep scrolling back and forth over the photos...what a diamond in the rough! How lovely your home is now - it's just beautiful and magazine-worthy. There's nothing like a good before and after! Thanks for sharing.

I'm a visionary as well, and this Chapter 1 is something else. That is quite a vision! And beautiful how far the exterior got in only a few years and how beautiful it is now. I'm excited about this series and learning more about your home renovations.

Your home is gorgeous! I would definitely have bought that home, even if it wasn't the best deal as long as it was in a good neighborhood. Your home is a gem. I could easily see through the weeds :)

You have a great eye and vision!

I would have bought it in a heart beat. When my husband was going through his ugly divorce he needed a home. Though he lived in my home, he needed one for him and his kids. So he bought the one we live in now. It was horrible, but for some reason I saw lots of potential. With him being a licensed contractor we went to work. I learned more than I had bargained for, but the end result is fabulous. It feels so good to know that you did the work. Atleast for me it is very satisfying.
You have a gorgeous home. Love it.

You had a vision. We thought we would live in our now 72-yr-old colonial for 5 yrs but 12 years later and after an expansion project 6 yrs later we are still here. Had I known, I would have looked some more. You have a very pretty property.
