give an 80's tract home some style...

I thought I'd share a different project I've been working on since last fall.
My sweet client wanted her home to have a timeless, classic style,
but wasn't sure how to accomplish that 'feel' with a smaller tract home built in the 80's.

Here are some of the exterior changes we've made so far...

BEFORE

AFTER

These are the changes we've made to give her the classic look she wanted.

New Paint
Painted Front Door
New Hardware, Including Brass Kick Plate
 Black Shutters
Window Box
 Oversized House Numbers
Oversized Lantern (replaced small porch light - not shown)
Path Lighting in Flower Bed
Teak Bench
Planted tulips to bloom in spring
Purchased Large Pots for the porch for next summer

Stay tuned...
tomorrow I'll show you some of the interior changes we're making!

That looks really great - exterior and interior updates - you're good! Can't wait to see the exterior updates. The black door and new shutters really make this one look more updated.

You worked your magic! The color combo you used is one of my favorites for traditional exteriors. So classic!

Wow, painting the trim white really makes the whole thing pop! That looks so fresh and inviting. I love the window box!

When I first met Pam I told her that I owned an outdated, challenging, and "boneless" tract home. I also told her that in spite of it, I needed to "bloom where I was planted!" Pam is making that come true! We can't thank you enough for the transformation of our home. You have done amazing work and somehow find ways to save us money with your smart decisions, frugal finds, and transformations of what we already owned. You are so very talented and could not be more fun to work with. Also, the new exterior light was installed yesterday. Another beautiful choice you made!

That is a lovely update and so fresh and classic looking. I really like how you chose the white on the trim directly surrounding the windows. Painting them out white makes the windows look more substantial and like they belong there.

Hi Pam, I popped over from Vintage Revivals because you were listed there as someone's favorite blog. I can see why. I REALLY loved visiting you and seeing your fabulous projects. I'm especially impressed by the nail-head trim ceiling. Wow! I'm so glad I discovered you.

Warmly, Michelle

I actually own this same exact model house and I'm really curious how you converted the vertical wood panelling on the front exterior into that smooth surface.
