the next project...

I'm so glad we only have four more days till the weekend! :)
We spent a good amount of the long weekend working in our yard, and
prepping our deck for re-staining, when we weren't dodging thunderstorms.
We did fit in a fun graduation celebration, and an outing downtown for dinner
as a reward for our hard work.

With the Colorado sun and snow our deck takes a beating and has to be re-finished
about every other year, we've always gone with a transparent stain, but are opting for
a new look this year, a solid stain.

BEFORE: ALMOST FINISHED WITH THE PREP

A few of my blogging pals have inspired me to give it a try...
check out their newly refinished, beautiful decks and fun Instagram feeds, too!

A multitude of colors are available which may pose a problem!
I might be brave and go with something unexpected, hold tight and I'll let
you know in a couple days.

If you've tried a solid stain what did you think?

Your garden is looking good. I am looking forward to seeing which colour you choose for the decking.

Oooooh I can't wait to see what you choose. The color options are endless with solid stain! Your outdoor space is so pretty and I hope your fab potting bench will be returning to this scene when the deck is done!

we did a solid stain at our old house before we moved (to help sell it!). no idea how it held up, but it looked great! :) i love the look of the solid stains. we don't have a deck here at the moment. :)

Oh, we are getting ready to paint our deck again. Going with the new deck paint from Home Depot that adds a rubber type coating which we really need for our sun baked deck. Paint just doesn't last for us.

Your yard looks so beautiful! We need to redo our deck too - looking forward to seeing what you use and how you like it vs. regular stain.

Looking forward to seeing it! Thanks for the shoutout!

II put on a solid stain last summer, and it adhered great to some new replacement boards and not the older ones! Scraping the snow off the deck this winter tore it up, so I have to restain it again now, so Im right there with you. I wish I could go lighter, but everything is dark. Good luck and have a great week. xo Nancy

Your yard is gorgeous! We use a solid stain on our fence and a set of stairs leading to our backyard. It holds up beautifully to our intense heat in the summers.

I love Summer's deck and I love your backyard!

We might go with a composite on the new deck.. not sure yet. Love all the different stain options! This is a job that my husband usually takes on and it's not much fun. Good luck Pam and I'm sure whatever you choose will look fantastic. Sounds like you had a nice weekend with a mix of fun and work projects. I like these 4 day work weeks:)

HI, I used Cabot solid stain on my house in upstate NY and I loved it! Not sure how it will look on a deck but I bet it would be great!

Your yard is so incredibly gorgeous! I know your deck will look fabulous no matter what you choose!

Love, love your beautiful lawn! We are planning to stain our deck this summer too! From the looks of it, the previous owners did not stain our deck and it is in definite need of color and protection! We plan to use a very dark color. Good luck with your project - I know it will look great.

I never have tried a solid stain so I'll be interested to see your process and feedback on using it. By the way - your yard is beautiful. I'm not surprised!

I haven't a clue about staining a deck but your garden is gorgeous!! :)

Ooh I cannot wait to see … we inherited a new "old" deck at #ProjectDownSize and I need some inspiration!!

Good luck Pam! I've always planned but never done it, I am amazed at Lisa's deck and I'm sure yours will be equally great!

My deck is a mess because it is cedar and doesn't hold a regular stain very well. We might be tearing the whole deck off eventually but now that I am looking at these solid stain ideas, that might be an option. Can't wait to see what you do!

I love the very first photo of your dog amongst the beautiful flower garden - Is he actually taking time to stop and "sniff" the flowers !! So cute - what a beautiful boy !

Your home and garden are lovely - can't wait to see your deck !

I think its a great idea. We did a solid stain on our deck about two (?) years ago and have loved it. Best choice!

Our deck is in need of refinishing in a bad way. We've contemplated doing composite. Our neighbors have it and love it and it looks great and so low maintenance. My SIL's dad is doing theirs with the new HD paint that Kim mentions above. I'm curious what that will look like when it's done. Our deck takes a beating with the afternoon sun as well. Looking forward to seeing the process for you and what you ended up going with.

I love that shot of Rio and your gardens! The stain idea is great, grey would look nice.

We used Behr Deckover on our wraparound porch in April & we LOVE how it turned out! It looks almost like composite decking and feels really good on our human feet & our canines' paws love it, too! I posted pics on Instagram back in the Spring, but have yet to write about it on my blog ( http://www.thepaintedchandelierblog.com/ ) Anyway, it was really easy to use, & I highly recommend it :) You can have the Rustoleum Restore colors mixed in the Behr Deckover, but not the other way around! Good stuff!
