hodge-podge to happy...

I've been smitten with the classic look of boxwoods for about a year,
the tidy, formal plantings were more and more appealing as our cottage style gardens
had taken on a messy hodge-podge look, and I wasn't a fan.
We spent part of the weekend doing yard work, and the beginnings of a
tidy yard are starting to take shape, yay for progress!

Long story short, we dug up and relocated a lot of plants before planting
a lot of boxwoods. (In my excitement I forgot to take a photo till midway.)

Ahhhh....

On the opposite side a longer bed, that was even more of a jumbled mishmash cottage-like!

I haven't got them neatly trimmed yet, but already I feel like it will be so much
more manageable. It doesn't look so bad in these photos because it's still early and
 everything isn't up yet.

The little boxwoods I bought last year didn't escape relocation...

now the beginnings of a more formal grouping around the base of our birdbath...

Even my cute girl was whipped, we all felt like this, but she was far more photogenic. :)

Thank you Mr. Simple and Detail Boy, you're the BEST!

Btw, I found these boxwoods at Home Depot for $12.88 each, a good price,
but I still haven't seen a repeat of last year's great deal at $3.33.

My cottage style garden has gotten a little overgrown and messy as well but I like all the color so I will just tidy it up..

I am sure you are all beaten up. My poor husband worked in the yard all day yesterday and boy was he pooped. I always help but not yesterday since my daughter was in town for my oldest ones graduation. We had bonding time.
Can't wait to see your yard complete. It looks beautiful with everything all green so far. Love the last picture of your girl. She is beautiful.

Love the structure the boxwoods add to your beautiful backyard and your big trees! Rio so sweet keeping you company as you work. Nothing like a day making changes in the garden, our favorite activity. Hopefully you got to sit and enjoy a glass of wine on the patio and enjoy the new scenery! Fun to have new views from the house too!

Rio is so cute! I am obsessed with boxwoods, too, and your plantings look so lovely. You can never have enough. I got some at HD for 7.99 last week.
I need about 50 more to make a difference. Your yard is looking fabulous.

I love the look of boxwoods. It's a shrub you really can't have too many of! How do you trim yours to keep them in a ball?

Looking lovely! I have plans for many more boxwoods around this place too - hopefully soon - but might not happen this year.

Your adorable dog looks really impressed! Haha. I have not yet begun to work in the yard at my Dollhouse. I'm using those funds to finish up the inside. Hopefully we'll make some progress this fall, which is better suited to planting in this part of the country.

Good for you, this is going to fill in fast. Isn't it funny how our garden visions change like our room visions. Your lawn is really green, btw.
