project update

I'm sure you're wondering, "Which one?"

Since I've mentioned a dozen few I'm working on, I'll help you out...
adding gold trim to built-in, saying goodbye to my yellow paint, re-purposing
my thrift store finds, dining room artwork and simple wheat grass!
Here's the scoop...

I was about 2 seconds from painting these thrift store finds when I thought
I could show my color loving friends an idea, before they met they're next life as neutrals!

So, I styled the bookcase for fun!

And, with a more neutral palette!

FOCUS!

I so wanted my bookcase to look like this...

I tried, but it wasn't in the cards. After finding the perfect gold paint and
living with sample pieces taped up,  I decided it doesn't flow nicely with my exisitng crown,
and my trim isn't wide enough to allow the detail shown on this bookcase. :(
I'm on the lookout for an Ikea piece that may lend itself to this.

My trim piece with different paint samples.  You can see the width issue more clearly.

Wheat grass never disappoints...1 week!
(this is a large soup tureen)

Smaller pots aren't as thick...not to worry, trust me!

Remember when I told you I painted my living room,
well...let's just say I need to keep going given our open floorplan!

Couldn't help but test it in the family room, too!

Dining room artwork...I did receive one print I ordered and was able to get a few images
from the NYPL digital gallery to print nicely.
Today I'm heading to Hobby Lobby to get some mats, tomorrow I should have
something to show you along with
my best framing secret to save you $$$!

You're up to date!

The bookcases look fabulous, I love the idea of the gold trim, sorry it didn't work out this time. Love love love the flamingo prints, I just pinned a few myself for a gold bamboo and linen frame I picked up at the consignment shop for $5. Looking forward to hearing about your framing secret! Have a great night!

Love how you showed both ways of styling the bookshelf - are your guys around when you do that? I can't wait to see the new look. Are you happy with the paint color that you chose? Did you choose Navajo White or am I dreaming that? I really like that last flamingo print too - is that from NYPL? Ok, enough questions from me. Hope you had a great weekend!

Holly, the paint is Navajo White, I love it and decided to do all the rooms that open to each other. The last print is from NYPL. Mr. Simple is oblivious to all of it, but Detail Boy takes in everything and is sure to let me know if I'm heading in the wrong direction! :)

You have a way with words my friend! Love showing the different looks with bookcases. I have been working on a post doing that very thing. Not sure when I will finish that one. Am I the only person who has several subjects waiting to be discussed? Haha. Great job.

Sounds like you are on many different projects. Something I do a lot of the time. I love color coordination on bookshelves, it is a different way to add interest to that space. Sorry the gold paint did not work out;at least you tried.

You are a machine. Loving all of the updates! Amazing styling of the bookcases-I'm so conflicted because I love color but just love neutrals. Can't wait to hear this framing secret of yours :)

I don't have near as many projects as you going on, and you are making great headway! 1.I looked for wheatgrass this wknd but couldn't find it, so I'm still looking 2.I tried out the gold corners on an old black frame and love it! 3.I have a really open floor plan as well and I know as soon as I paint the entry way I have opened a really big can of worms! Cant wait to see your framing secret!!

It's looking good! Fun DIY projects. Takes time but oh so worth it in the end when you get the look you love!

Wow girl, you've got a lot going on!!! I love how you styled your bookcases with a pop of color and neutral....I like how you used white spined books for the neutral version. I'm inspired to pull out all our green books to use on my shelves for a subtle St. Patrick's Day and and spring decor.
I also wanted to tell you what guff I am getting from my family about my wheat grass - they are all giggling about me growing grass for the dining room table. I'm so glad I have a friend who understands me!!!! The soup tureen is a great idea!

You're making great progress! I feel a little all over the map too right now. Will probably be planting some grass with the kids this evening.

Pam, the flamingos are amazing! Just love them! Also, Gwyneth and I tagged you in 11 questions. Know you've already had one round of it, but if you find yourself with time, we'd love to see your answers!

I thought of you yesterday...I was at home depot and pulled up your blog on my iphone to find out what kind of grass I needed to buy. Of course they didn't have it, but since I saw that it only takes a week to look like that, I realized I had time. I cannot believe the art work you created from a NYPL print and hobby lobby + a coupon...wow!
