Woo hoo, it's done!
It's been raining on my little diy striped awning all day long, I considered bringing it in. :)
It feels kind of like having new shoes and it rains the first day you wear them!
I've always loved the charm of awnings, and have wanted to add one to the front
of our home for awhile, it's fun driving around the block over and over by and seeing it.
I wouldn't have ever considered diy-ing one, but having a diy blog has certainly propelled
me to think of ways to diy anything!
Fun pictures today and the tutorial tomorrow...
I didn't realize how bad those evergreens look till now, they've been in
there for at least five years, they're getting ripped out tomorrow.
Let's focus on the awning - I had my sweet neighbor come over and tell me what
it needed, she thought a softer relaxed look was better than tightly stretched over the
frame, and it made the buckles I was fretting about disappear. Unfortunately, I'd
already taken out the seams, and tried adding drapery weights trying to find a solution.
I went back and looked, some of my inspiration awnings have a relaxed look to them,
with soft wrinkles here and there, that was all it took for me to be finished!
A few of you asked if we're planning to leave it up year round, I think it has a
summery vibe that doesn't fit with our Colorado winters. We also like to decorate for
Christmas and I can't quite picture it with lights and garland. So, we'll be taking it down.
It will be fun tradition to look forward to bringing it out each spring.
Looking out from inside, and a close up of the corner that sent me in search of retail therapy. :)

It looks great! Matches the color of your home perfectly! And I don't know about you but I sure enjoyed the rainy chilly weather today!
This looks amazing Pam! I was just preparing a post about how inspired by black and white I am. So much charm.... great job.
LOVE it! it just is the perfect accessory for your home, like a scarf o a white tee with black pants.
It's absolutely charming! I love it! Worth the sweat and tears. ;)
Oh, and of course it looks fantastic because it's striped!! :) from your stripe lovin friend.
Lovely! It looks fabulous!
That awning is absolutely the STAR, JEWEL, CROWN, CHERRY on the top!!!
IT'S PERFECT!
The difference of the before and after is unbelievable!
I love the idea of having the BRINGING OUT THE AWNING AND TAKING IT DOWN tradition each Spring and Fall. Really a FUN EVENT for all!!!
Love it Pam! It changes the look of the front of the house completely! I liked the relaxed look :)
My grand parents had a white home with b+w awnings. They only had them up for the warmer months. I adore the look of your home! You did a great job.
I am in love! So chic! Can you believe you made that? Hubby and son must be impressed! Your front yard is so pretty. As is Rio on her porch.
Ha, I would drive by too! After we make changes to our house or yard, we love driving by slowly and imagining we are not the homeowners!
Great job, Pam! I love the look of awnings, too. The black and white stripe looks classic and goes so well with your home. I'm glad you said you are taking it down for Winter, mainly because I figure it will go through a lot with sun, snow, rain, etc.
Your awning looks absolutely amazing. Funny how you don't know that you need something until you get it and then it is like "I should have had that all along". It looks like it finishes the house!
Off the subject here....I love your railing in front of your door! It's a real beauty!!! I had to get that out. I feel better now.
What a difference a small but well thought of addition made! A spring-summer only, so we can look forward to seeing it again in 2014. Did I just say 2014?

So glad you are sharing the set up of your awing it definitely made an impact on your entrance and love all the natural plants and rocks you have. I do agree that for the winter months taking it down and putting back up for warmer months.
The awning looks just beautiful - it's the icing on the lovely cake that is your home ! Also, the big guy laying on the front step, surveying his kingdom, is darn cute too !
Love it! Where did you order you awning from?
Debbie
If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times...your house looks like something straight out of BH&G. They need to line up their photographers! So pretty, Pam.
Very Cute! I new you could do it...it adds a nice touch to the front of the home..
I love it Pam!!! Perfect for your house! xo Kristin
Very Classic!! You will be so excited to have it out longer next spring and summer! Your furry friend, Rio, is such a great model!!
So happy for you to have achieved such a great look, all by yourself! It looks fantastic and what a happy entry it makes. Love Rio in there! Give her a squeeze for me. I think it is fantastic, and so are your gardens! Enjoy!
xoxoNancy
Looks great!
Even though your house and yard are already simply gorgeous, that one little detail adds SO much charm! I really, really love it! And, how nice of Rio to be the perfect little model!
Looks fantastic and wonderful accessory to your ~ already gorgeous home Pam:)
I think as DIY'ers and designers we are harder on our work than anyone. It looks fantastic Pam! I wonder though, did you use a seam on the two sides where it was gathering? Or did you use one long strip and attach it to the top area? I am thinking if there was a seam on the two corners it would lay flatter {maybe even stitch the seams down?} Oh who cares! It looks wonderful lol
Love the crisp black and white stripe Pam, it looks just fabulous on your home. You are a genius.... (and a skilled DIYer I might add.)
I love it! It looks perfect on your house!
This is just amazing. I love it! Isn't it funny how you don't notice your urns until you take a picture. I do that, too. I bet a little Holly Tone will fix them up.
I knew it would turn out great!! You house looks marvelous!!
Best,
Karolyn

It adds so much! Your yard is beautiful, great curb appeal!
You did an amazing job Pam! It looks fantastic. I do like the relax look better! :) I like sweet Rio's photo bomb. She is too cute.
How gorgeous Pam! The perfect addition to your home. It's all about the details!!
How did I miss this one?! Seriously, what's wrong with me. That awning is downright brilliant. I have been scheming for one over my french doors for years now. You have just planted another DIY seed. The mr. may just kill me when I mention this.
I think this is an informative post and it is very useful and knowledgeable. therefore, I would like to thank you for the efforts you have made in writing this article. grey rug
