Thanks for smiling at my attempt at a witty title.
I'm referring to the gold mesh (hardware net) I installed behind my hutch doors.
(I've finished two coats of Annie Sloan French Linen, but still need to wax.)
The net I chose is very stiff plastic and isn't manufactured straight,
the shelves behind it accentuate it even more.
I was trying something other than chicken wire because I was afraid of it looking
a tad country and I was going for a more modern look.
FYI, it's pulled taut and stapled despite it looking loose.
Case in point...
It doesn't make your eyes hurt in person.
You can see how the straight line veers off.
Any suggestions? Or try the chicken wire?

It looks ok to me! But if you want to try the chicken wire - paint it gold - that should take the country look out of it!
Have you looked at Outwater Plastics? They sell the real deal, although I have no idea how pricey it is, but it might inspire you for another material.
Your hutch looks amazing in that paint!! So, do you love working with A.S. Chalk paint? never tried it and am soooo curious. I need another DIY!

That hutch is looking so amazing Pam! I think the way it's painted, if you added chicken wire it (And painted it gold) would still love modern and I think maybe you'd be happier. You've spent so much time on this already so why not be happy?
Your hutch looks fabulous Pam!! I agree with the others, if you use chicken wire and spray it gold it should give you the modern look you want. I LOVE IT!
I feel your pain. You can get a sheet of aluminum like this http://www.lowes.com/pd_317844-81-57240_0__?productId=3583246&Ntt=aluminum+sheet
Be careful cutting it.
Love the paint color, the hutch looks great, the wax will make it even richer. I like the small gage of the mesh you used. Chicken wire painted gold will show more of the contents and styling behind it. The cloverleaf idea is attractive and updated, that will also obscure more but maybe you want to have some hidden storage in the piece?
I drove across town to get AS paint for my armoire yesterday and the shop was closed! Went to Crate & Barrel and Calico Corners instead, mood improved! Will try again later in the week.
I was at hobby lobby yesterday and noticed metal sheets with great geometric shapes. Not sure if the size is right but they'd look really cool if so. Good luck!
I love the gold color! Maybe if the hardwire net looks better, you could paint/ spray paint it?
Love how it is coming along. Hurry up and "get buff" so we can see how the wax transforms the piece. I can't wait to start my 1st project with ASCP! My gut says to steer clear of chicken wire, painted or not. What do you think about chair caning painted gold? It could have a cool geometric effect.
Pam...it looks good from Blog land, but it would be hard to see whats in your chest. I would try the chicken wire if its bugging ya. What the who, it might be worth the try.
The hutch looks fabulous! This ASCP is unbelievable! I am not a crafter....have no idea which would look better on the chicken wire decision.....do agree it should be gold? Working on the kitchen cabinetry again today. If you use just the clear wax it really doesn't change the appearance ......just protects it. When you use the dark wax, you get an antiqued look. I prefer the clean modern look of the clear wax for the BLH. I had to "erase" most of the dark wax we used on the bath cabinet door fronts. It looked OK and was easy, but I was not looking for the dark antiqued, shabby chic look the dark wax created....didn't flow with the rest of the house.
Oh my gosh I LOVE the color on the hutch!!! Gorgeous!!
I actually thought of you last week when I ran into the landscaping part of Lowes - where the cement is - there was a metal mesh - I don't know what it's used for in building but I thought, spraypainted, it might make a great insert in your cabinet. Hold on……
Here it is!! Maybe a little stiffer than the plastic version….but ouch, definitely wear gloves to cut this bad boy!!

PS just went back to ogle the cabinet again, and I also LOVE the gold hardware with the grey! That cool/warm thing - yum!
It's called "Lath Diamond Mesh" if that link doesn't work.
I sure wish I could make a mesh like that! I love love love the paint color and the gold hardware. The Hobby Lobby option sounds interesting for the grid.
I was looking for something similar for my home recently. I found this stuff it has great reviews. I have bought it yet but I'm seriously contemplating it.

Happy mesh shopping.
Ps love the color and cabinet, looks gorgeous.
i actually don't think it looks crooked or bad- my first thought was ooh i love it. and my second and third thought was still that after reading.
Have you tried "hardware cloth?" You can get the galvanized wire mesh at Hardware Stores like Ace for about $14.00 for:
36" x 5'
1/4" x 1/4" mesh
23 gauge steel
Much better than the plastic kind.

Weighing in late, but you've got some good suggestions! I like the gold whatever you do. Home Depot has some sheets of decorative metal that I think are used for vent or radiator covers-maybe by the nails and screws aisle on an endcap(?) but I don't know if they are big enough for your doors. Looking Great! I know you'll figure it out.
I love how the hutch looks. Love the hardware and the mesh looks good to me, but if you aren't happy with it maybe chicken wire or maybe there is something you could use gold gilding wax on.
Maybe if you sprayed the chicken wire a gold it would look more modern - love the hutch...great color!!
I need to know about your ASCP experience - what did you think? I love that color - that's the color my neighbor used on her hutch and it looks really nice.
Wouldn't have noticed wavy lines if you hadn't mentioned it, and still looks good upon further review. Nice blog just discovered, looking forward to perusing further!
That would totally bug me! Looks like other readers gave great suggestions. Ban the plastic and go with metal. Good luck, can't wat to see the finished look.
Love the hutch!...Several homes ago, I had a bank of kitchen cabinetry that had glass upper cabinets with wire over it...At that time, I did not like the wire and took it off...so if you want more of a look that they place over the glass in kitchen cabinetry, you may want to consider calling a kitchen cabinet company and see how much they would charge....just a thought!
I think it would give it the look you are going for...
