force tulips for valentine's day...

I stopped by a friend's house on the weekend, as I was passing through her garage I
noticed a big bag of 90 red tulip bulbs she had intended to plant last fall. :)
I'm guilty of doing it a time or two! You? : )
Of course I asked her if I could have them, I thought we could try to forcing them. I figured
they'd already been in the garage chilling for the required 8 - 15 weeks, and all that was left
was to plant them in a pot, water, and wait....our timing is perfect to have a LOT of tulips for
 Valentines's Day!

I think our chances are good, they were already beginning to sprout.

If you happen to have a bag in your garage here's a pretty planting idea...

If yours made it into the ground already...
here's a fun whimsical idea, cut flowers and candy corn.
Place a smaller vase in the center of the larger one, and fill the empty space
 between vases with candy.

Have you ever forced tulips?
Do you think our chances are good?

I never tried to force any plants inside because my cats eat the plants. It looks so pretty though.

Oh, I so hope you have lots of tulips for V-day! Tulips are one of my favorite memories from college...they were always stunning.

Yes, I have done this but did not have great success. Good luck.

I'm totally clueless with anything related to plants or flowers but love, love tulips so if this works out for you, I'm hoping to see a how-to!

I wish I had some bulbs laying around so I could do this! I have been craving some fresh flowers to get me through this dreary part of winter, I have to make a stop at Trader Joe's today and treat myself. What a pick me up to have red tulips this time of year!

I forced an amaryllis at Christmas and it turned out beautiful! I also have some tulips in my garage (from last year!) and debated but wasn't sure they would do anything at all. Good luck with them!

This is so cool! I also have no idea about plants and have never heard of forcing? On a side note worst case scenario I picked up a ton of tulips at Trader Joes the other day b/c they were (maybe still are) the current special..$1.99 a bunch!

First of all, since when do they have Valentine's candy corn? :) Leave it to you to put something to good use. I know for sure those tulips are going to bloom and be amazing. Be sure to post a pic!

I've never tried to force tulips but I've had good luck with paper whites and amaryllis bulbs. In fact, I think I have an amaryllis kit in one of my closets. :-) Hope your timing works out Pam!!

Oh I hope they bloom for Valentines! I had a thought last night - I have wheat grass seed - maybe it's time to start some to have something green to look at since it seems we are going to be snowed in for several weeks yet!
