Last week's progress was so lame painting two coats on the vanity,
and it still needs one more....then the fun begins!
If you're catching up with the One Room Challenge you can find
(Playing in the mountains over the long President's weekend took priority
last week, and I'm feeling a tad guilty, but this week I'm on it!)
One of my favorite paints is Rustoleum's Protective Enamel, I love the high gloss,
lacquer like finish which, in my opinion, outweighs the inconvenience of the oil base.
It requires 24 hours drying time between coats, and the clean-up with mineral spirits is a pain,
but worth it in the end for the fabulous finish. I've used it on these two projects,
You can find a tutorial here.
If you look close you can see the reflection of the can on the vanity.
This detail is a booger! I used a stencil brush to get in the crevices.
I stole a larger mirror from my bedroom, the old one seemed too heavy and dark
for the new look...better?
My fabric for the window treatment arrived, my lighting is ready and waiting,
I have three rugs I'm losing sleep over - can't decide if I should go totally neutral or
throw in a punch of color...and then there's the art...I'm all over the place!

Such a good tip about that paint. This looks so good already! Talk about losing sleep...I need to go back to bed...but this was a fun read.
What a difference paint is making on that vanity/dresser. The carved details look really challenging. I love how the stripes on the wall line up perfectly with the top of the vanity :)...and that mirror is so much better for the new look. I know you'll pick the perfect rug.
oh it's coming along so nicely! I love that fabric, I used something similar in Tagg's nursery!
All the changes look great. Rustoleum's Protective Enamel is my favorite too. I paint all my trim and moldings with their white.
I love that Ikat fabric too.
love that fabric! that room is really transforming already!
the room is already coming along beautifully- so much lighter and brighter and not so heavy anymore!
I absolutely love that painted vanity Pam, it is gorgeous. I'm also losing sleep over rug choices..I sort of have to wait til my fabric comes in, but I have to pick an accent color still..fun! Your room looks practically done. can't wait to see the lighting. Good luck,
xo Nancy

Nice! The lighter color brings out the detail even more on the sides of the vanity. And definitely a good choice swapping out the mirrors. There's not a huge difference but that little bit does make a big impact. Looking good!
Loving the look so far!! The light color on the vanity makes the room look much larger. Very nice!
Love the high gloss finish on the cabinet...everything looking great and I truly love the horizontal stripes on the wall!
Wow, love the lighter color! Feels like a different room!!
So far so good my friend! Love the fabric and can't wait to see the rugs you are noodling over.....
I love how it's coming out! The fabric you chose is so pretty too!

I love that you're losing sleep over this project. It wouldn't be a good one if you weren't! Don't all designers dream about rugs?!
So light and fresh looking. I love the fabric, stripes, mirror, and the vanity is so pretty!

Will surely keep that paint in the back of my head for our next project. thanks
That finish is amazing. Great idea about using the stencil brush!
You have such great taste I am sure whatever you pick will be perfection! I think a punch of color would be so pretty!

I love what a can of paint can do!
Here is what I love...that all of the ORC challengers who are doing rooms in their own house are in a constant state of anxiety over the decisions:) Including me. I have faith that it will turn out fabulous! Keep moving forward.....
I love what you have done so far! The new mirror is a perfect touch in that space!
Amazing what paint can do, love the new look of the vanity!! I say go for two rugs, one neutral for fall/winter and one bright for spring/summer!! Have fun with it!! Love how it is all turning out,

Yes, the gold mirror is the right decision, and I'm still gushing over the stripes. I have no doubt you will pick an amazing rug and art!

This is going to be such a major facelift. I Love it. The stripes look great and the new mirror looks great to me.
What kind of prep work did you do on the cabinet? Did you sand & prime?
Hi Anonymous, Thanks for asking, here is a link to the the paint tutorial. I've updated this post to include it, too.
