If you've been following along with the ORC (One Room Challenge) you know I'm using
a dresser as our bathroom vanity, I've had it for years and still love the unique look it gives
our bathroom. It's my top choice for creating a custom look without spending a lot of money. Dressers are plentiful on Criagslist, and can be easily modified, we had a handyman do ours,
just be sure the construction won't be compromised if the piece needs to be reworked.
If storage isn't a concern, a console, desk or table can also make a beautiful statement.
The ideas below show the versatility of several pieces, and almost make me want a new one!
Basin on top of console, placement isn't centered. This is the configuration I chose for
mine, I thought it was more functional to have extra counter space to one side,
and I like to have room for something pretty. :)

Basin on top of desk, centered. The style of this piece leaves the plumbing more exposed.

Choosing a longer dresser would allow for dual sinks.

This rustic dresser looks like a nice size for a powder room.

I love this "out of the box"....or cabinet :) thinking.... add such interest to a space. Can't wait to see yours!
I have a vanity in my powder room, too. The top of mine is really getting bad with all the water. I love the idea of a basin sitting on top.
Great weekend to you too! Thanks for sharing the eye candy. We have three bathrooms with seashell sinks in need of new vanities. perhaps I'll find a cool dresser to make it happen. The seashell sinks have to go!;)
Love it and have done this myself a few times..very pretty!
I wish I'd have room for a dresser in one of our tiny bathrooms.
I love this idea and love you incorporated it into your own bathroom. Is there anything you need to do with the top if it is wood so it doesn't get mildewy or water damaged?
Such pretty inspiration! I was thinking the same thing as Danielle above - I wonder if water damage to the wood would be an issue.
Great question about the water - I put a coat of polyurethane on the top when we first bought it, it held up great all these years. Also, it's in a main bath that gets a lot of use.
oh i love all of these!!! love that one from french country cottage- gorgeous!
I love that first image with the alter table and so many others. It's a unique idea and so custom looking. I think it's a win-win on the way to a decorator look. I have some Home Depot vanities I want to burn..have a lovely weekend Pam, good luck with your projects!

While I have never used a dresser for my own home, I have for a client project and it turned out beautifully! Such a unique way to go, can't waot to get another gander at yours Pam!!!
I love this look! I am helping my sister right now with what to do with an extra dresser in her home- it's going in the dining room I think, but if they needed it in a bathroom I would be sold!
I've always loved this look and considered it for our powder room reno a few years back. In the end, I didn't have the time to hunt down the "perfect" piece that would fit in my small bathroom so I went in another direction. Maybe next time :)
I Love the look and would like to do this in my home. I was wondering Pam what you use to get the pin button to show up when you hover on the picture? I have not seen this before.
Thanks
Such a great idea for a custom bath. I especially love the bamboo piece. Would love to do this instead of builder-grade vanity w/ a banjo top.
i love all your inspiration pics! i've always wanted to use a dresser as a vanity in my bathroom but hubby nixed the idea (bad man!) since he really doesn't give me much lip about all my other ideas i gave in on that....buuuut i did manage to squeeze one in in his bathroom so i guess all was not lost!
I think dressers used as vanities are so stylish! Would love to have one in my powder bath but it's such a tiny space, I'd have to find just the right one.
I love the first one. How clever to off center it in that manner. The space it opens up is amazing.......Great idea!
I love this idea!
Have a great weekend, Pam!
I've always loved this idea!
I really like the examples you featured. I used a sideboard for a vanity in a loft space I previously lived in.
You make it seem so easy! It is a beautiful look for a pretty bathroom. Love it. Happy weekend Pam!
I love all these options, Pam. The furniture pieces make such unique statements in each space. Can't wait to see your finished space!
Have a great weekend!
Love this post and pictures! The photos are inspiring.
One of my favorite items for bathrooms ~ just love them! Can't wait to see yours completed. The photos are wonderful!

I love the idea...great options for a bathroom!
I really wanted to use a dresser in our master bath but the space ended up being too long for most dressers and I wanted to optimize storage since the vanity was our only option.
BUT, I love this idea and still hope to do it one day in maybe a future home?!?! :)
I just wanted to let you know that I just added a new post about my entry way styling....and I think you will see that I did get some of my inspiration from your dining room redo! Just wanted to share that....
