plum crazy for fall...

Plum, aubergine, eggplant, or ordinary purple...
I was in the mood for something new and different, and decided on adding lively
accents of it here and there to spruce up my neutrals for fall.
A few diy projects and they have a complete new look without much expense.
If you've been reading for long you know of my love for neutrals because of the
versatility, and ease in introducing an entire new color palette...

On a whim I tried my hand at painting an abstract last week, you can read the details here.
I gave my Craigslist buffet gold highlights with a quick Rub 'n Buff  here

One of my favorite items to retrieve from the 'Fall' box every year are
a collection of photos of Detail Boy, I took one every fall when he was young.

Remember that lamp last February when I was in a pink mood here, I'm thinking it's ready
for something new.

Pillows are my favorite accessory for adding pizazz.
The green one on the left I stole from Detail Boy's room and the other three I made.
I like Ikea's Fjadrar 20 x 20 feather inserts for $6.99 here and make envelope style
covers for quick and easy changes! :)

The plum color palette was in the works when I began stenciling the suzani patterned rug here

This fall floral arrangement came together after a trip to Lowes yesterday,
all the plants in the garden center are 50% off. Hurry! I picked up 3 ornamental kale,
a small mum and the pansies for about $11, the package of mini pumpkins was
$4 at Walmart.  I'm hoping if I water it they'll last for my Thanksgiving table
 centerpiece. Fingers crossed!

I chose a rustic Pepsi crate as my planter, but the possibilities for containers are endless.
I'll show you how I put it together tomorrow.

Thanks for coming along for the fall living room tour, sweet friends!

Your ability to craft elegant furnishings from found pieces is so inspiring! The living room looks fresh and beautiful. Some may have the idea to change something for the better but you actually get out the supplies and do it...and do it so well! I love how you are not afraid to move things around and change them. Focusing on one's own creativity leads to a happy life. Well done!

Ok, you can officially never say again that you can't paint abstracts. I love it! I'm glad you gave it another try, but beware, it's addicting. ;)

Excellent new color palette - I love it. And I like how you brought in some yellow leaves to compliment some of the touches of yellow in your painting. I really like what you did w/ the Rub n' buff too - I just painted our dresser yesterday that had that same stain. And I need to see how you put that planter together too - that's so pretty.

When did you go to "Artist School" ???? Your abstract is gorgeous. I am inspired by your coffee table centerpiece. I may have to go to Wal-Mart today and I am looking forward to see what you do with your lamp!

I am coming back to purple as well. I pinned a whole board for a friend about purple to try to change her mind about purple. It certainly changed mine! I find myself gravitating towards purple these days in clothes, fabrics, and accessories. Here is the board if you want to see:
