Want beautiful paperwhites for your decor in December?
Plant them the beginning of November!
Paperwhites are one of the easiest bulbs to force,
it couldn't be more simple and they'll provide a gorgeous display during the
holidays or make a welcome hostess gift.

On display in my kitchen last year...
1. A quick trip to Home Depot for the bulbs.
2. Fill your container with potting soil and add bulbs, pointed end up.
3. Cover all but the tips with soil.
4. Water with lukewarm water, keep moist but not soaking wet.
5. Place container in a dark spot for 4-7 days until roots form.
6. When sprouts appear move the bulbs to a spot that gets bright light.
And watch them grow!
My post from last year is here with inspiration for pretty container ideas.
I started them November 10th and that was plenty of time for holidays blooms.
Happy November, friends!

Guess what is on my shopping list today! I had no idea you could do this. Thanks for the tip, I think they will look lovely over the festive season.
Good reminder! One of our favorite holiday traditions. We love the scent of narcissus but some people find the scent nauseating, like gasoline! Our neighbors fall into this group.
I force them twice during the winter, once for Christmas and then again for the dreary days of February. Also do this with amaryllis. Wonderful to watch something beautiful grow every day when the world outside is frozen!
They also grow happily in a vase with their roots in water by using rocks as a base to secure the bulbs over the water. Love how they look on your countertop with the pretty silver!
Thank you for the reminder to get started on these, Pam! Last year some of bulbs didn't make it into soil until after Christmas and some didn't even bloom. This year I'm all over it thanks to you! Putting it on my to-do list :) Hope you had a happy Halloween :)
they are such a pretty pretty delicate flower- love them!
This has been on my list all week to start- I loved having them last year! I think they make gorgeous hostess gifts too :)
Thanks so much for this! I'm going to try it this year! They are beautiful!
I love paperwhites! Your kitchen vignette looked so pretty!
Thanks for the reminder Pam. We love growing them every year. S likes seeing the roots, so we too grow them in water w/ rocks.
Great idea....very pretty!
I'm glad you're on top of things. Think my black thumb could pull this off? I'm truly convinced that all 8 of your fingers and both thumbs are vibrant green!
Beautiful...looks easy enough...you've inspired me to try it! Leave them inside or outside until they sprout?
I think I might go out and get them now too. I really want to be surrounded by plant life in the cold days of winter. I remember this from last year thinking how pretty they are. I was just reading Cindy's comment and might try them in a vase.
It's that time again already? Thanks for alerting me!
Those are gorgeous! I am sending this to my hubby - he's the planter around here.
I do this every year Pam! Thanks for the reminder to get going on it :) You are right, it's so easy and I love they fragrance when this flower blooms.

I really need to do this - I love having paperwhites. I have a friend who usually does them for me but she is in Haiti for 2 years and I don't have a replacement for her so I should just do it myself!
Paperwhites are a Christmas staple in my house..... can't wait!!!
Pretty! I am sooo gonna do this... just know the perfect Aunt to give this to as a present! =o)
I just love Paperwhites but I usually don't think about them until after Christmas. I'm going to get them started earlier this year.
Thanks for the great tip!

Love paper whites. I need to get some.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for the reminder! I'm heading to Home Depot this weekend. Maybe I'll plant a few extras for gifts during the holidays!
Love paperwhites...and love the ones you grew last year...so pretty!!
This is a perfectly timed post! I just asked my hubby if we wanted to do paper whites this year, and he's into it! And voila, in my blog reading catch up, your post pops up! Thank you :-) Love the first pot full - just beautiful! I might need to keep my eyes out for a silver urn in my thrifting excursions!
I am going to do this! I used to do it every year and then I got lazy......they are so beautiful!
