goodwill lamp makeover...mary mcdonald knock off

It's been on my to-do list to add some modern touches to our kitchen.
I love the look of a lamp on the counter, and the ambiance it gives in the evening
after every thing is all cleaned up, ahhh. I've been smitten with the bold graphic pattern on
 Mary McDonald's Santorini lamp forever.
I used a $10 lamp I scored at Goodwill to create a less than perfect similar version. :)

This Mary McDonald Santorini lamp was my inspiration.

BEFORE
I found these lamps at Goodwill back in May, the square base was perfect for this diy.

I spray painted a base coat using Rustoleum Ultra Cover in White,
then marked the center of the lamp as my starting point to begin taping.

I taped off my far from perfect pattern...
(I noticed it needs a bit of tweaking after removing the tape)

using the 3M tape I won in my diy goodie package, from the all-time nicest,
Linda @ Calling it Home. Thank you, sweet friend!  :)
Then sprayed it with Rustoleum Ultra Cover in Black Gloss.

I printed out a favorite quote on my computer, after seeing this inspiration :) and put it in
a frame I'd spruced up with gold corners, over a year ago. Aka, Courtney's genius idea

I like that my teenager can't help but see it everyday!

I have a few more elements to add, but this easy, inexpensive diy gives this
 little corner a fresh update.

Hi Pam! I linked over to your blog from Calling it Home then I saw the "Work Hard and be Nice to People" quote and had to follow you. It's one of the few quotes I live by. Then as an added bonus I saw you are from Denver too! How cool is that? Have a great evening!

Oh the possibilities are endless with Goodwill lamps and this is one of the best I've seen! I don't have a lamp on my counter due to the fact we have under counter lighting but for those who don't, a lamp really does do wonders for a kitchen!

You rocked it! Glad you are putting the goodies to use. Love that quote.

Sigh...I just love anything Mary Mcdonald. Do you watch that Property Envy show she is on? It's ok, but she sure is a hoot! I love the transformation, you did an awesome job on that one. Great vision you have Pam. The quote is the bomb, everyone should live by that!

Per.fec.tion! I love it! I don't think I would have thought to paint a graphic pattern on a lamp...you know what I've got my eyes open for now at the thrift store. And that quote, I keep telling my husband I'm going to print a big one to frame for his office! -Not for him, as a gentle reminder to others! :)

Very fun! I love that lamp and the frame! I was wondering when those Goodwill lamps would reappear! We still laugh about your cowboy lamp shade. I hope all is well with you and that your son has a great start of the new school year!

I would have walked right by that lamp - and I think I am pretty good at finding the underlying beauty in the thrift stores. The lamp is fabulous, Pam!

Brilliant! I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I need to spend more time in thrift stores.

I love thrifting and making over lamps, too. I have a couple pairs in the garage getting or awaiting a facelift. Yours turned out great.
