potted evergreen...inside!

This pretty room caught my eye while I was perusing Pinterest.

I loved...

the texture of that evergreen in the rustic, aged pot

the statement of an over-sized accessory

the unexpected idea of bringing it indoors

 I immediately thought of all the evergreens I've seen at Home Depot and Lowes 

garden centers lately for $5 - $10 depending on size...

Terra Cotta Pots are inexpensive, this is my favorite diy to give one some patina:

No tutorial, but Karen from Redoux Interiors explains,

'Cover terra cotta pots in joint compound, let dry, paint and let nature take its course.'

I think it's one of those no fail projects - it looks great even messed up!

First, I completely forgot to give you all the decision on the HomeGoods table I loved.

 I agree with the majority of you, as much as I loved it and wanted

it to work it's just to bulky for my space. :(

I'm so ready to have my deck and yard together for summer entertaining,

it's usually close to being finished by now, but our May Day snowstorm and several rainy

days and cold nights last week stalled any progress.

Remember last year when I found this settee at a yard sale and re-did the cushions?

I found the bold ikat fabric on the clearance rack for $5 a yard, I knew:

1) It wouldn't last more than one season

2) I'd want something different this summer

Which brings us to the new project, I love the neutral cushions in the inspiration photos

 below. I was pleasantly surprised to find my pattern labeled and ready to go, woo hoo!

 My organization skills have slipped this year, I couldn't even find my paint brushes the other

 day, they were in the fridge, and sadly still are!

Notice how my $5/yard fabric held up over the winter, not! I picked up a drop cloth from

 Lowes for $10.99 I think it will give me the exact look I'm going for.

I noticed this sign next to a potted pine tree for sale in the garden section at Lowes.

Right above it was a nest with about four babies.

Another update - In case you're waiting for the 'Deal Alert' on the boxwoods and

evergreens I've been watching, but haven't seen them yet.

 Last year it was on May 9th, so we could be out of luck.   

One more thing, a tip for bloggers! 

Last year I posted this photo when I was re-doing the settee, it showed the new cushion

 I made and the old faded cushion. I found it on the DIY with Pier 1 Pinterest Board

with the description  'diy with creative cushions'

Oh my goodness, seriously, and my name all over it! 

Since then I put text on my photos that states 'In Progress,' to alleviate any confusion!!

Whew, that was wordy ~ I'll go now!

   

favorite hostess gifts...

Hope you all had a restful weekend and some Mother's Day pampering if you're a mom!
 Ours included get-togethers with friends and family which translates to an
 abundance of delicious food, requisite indulging and inevitable Monday morning regret!

 I thought of you all on Saturday night, we were dinner guests at a beautiful
home, unique decor and art (including great dog pieces) at every turn, a wine cellar to rival
 any, gourmet cooks, fun new friends, and if that wasn't already perfect,
two of the sweetest golden retrievers followed us around the entire evening!  :)
I was polite it took everything I had and didn't ask or sneak any photos for you...so sorry!

The best I could do is share the hostess gift we brought...

bottle of wine, dish towel, and empty wine bottle with flowers,
tie a card around the bottle with any sentiment...

 Another simple idea, I took this to a friend last week,
a gallon size perennial from Home Depot, wrapped with brown craft paper and twine...

 And this one I can't wait to try, wouldn't it be great for a summer, family BBQ...
a glass pitcher filled with lemons, wooden spoon and dish towel, lemonade recipe

Do you have a favorite go-to hostess gift?

new coffee table...yay or nay?

I've been shopping for design clients a lot lately, my favorite! :)

But the hazards of the job fell upon me yesterday! 

 I knew this unusual coffee table I saw at HomeGoods would work for a couple of different

spaces, so I added it to my pile before anyone could steal it. When I got home I decided to

 bring it in to test it for my clients - very baaaaad idea!

It's so unique, has an awesome texture, and a rustic global vibe, but yesterday

 Bethany @ Powell Brower at Home wrote this post

and I started thinking, there are a lot of right angles going on in here, maybe I need

 something round or oval instead.

On the other side of the room I do have a bergere chair and ottoman with soft curves. 

Sorry for the bad photo I took it in the evening and hadn't anticipated sharing it.

Btw, my feelings won't be hurt if its not your style, it's just a coffee table!

baseball hats...not just for bad hair days

A little detour from design and diy to chat about one of my favorite accessories...

 Of course, I wear them on bad hair days, and they're perfect when I'm trying to stretch

 my highlights out for an extra week day or so.

But, aside from those days I love the carefree, casual look with a bit of flair.

I have a collection, someday when my closet is clean I'll show you!
