So, I have some new vintage faux bamboo dining room chairs! :)
And, no surprise I'm in the biggest quandary as to what to do with them.
While on vacation last week my fabulous friend and uber awesome thrifter sends me this
text - "4 chairs at $6 per. Do you have a client in need?"
I tried to think of someone and tried to talk her into taking them and finally gave in,
because it's no secret I have a problem with chairs.
I loved the pattern on the back of my other chairs, but always wished the backs were a
tad taller. These are about 4.5" higher and I couldn't resist the detail at the top.
And, SERIOUSLY $6 each!
I'm all over a deal like that, there's no guilt if (haha!) when I want to change it up.
Now to decide on what color to paint and re-upholster.
I love the idea of something unexpected and dramatic...

Black is both neutral and dramatic, my Pinterest Board of Chairs
is filled with over scale bold pattern...

But I'm always drawn to the versatility of neutrals...

which got me to thinking about painting the walls instead of the chairs...

...or wallpapering them and painting the chairs.

As you can tell I need to reel myself in and get a plan.
Do you have any favorites?

Oh my! These are my favorite of all the dining room chairs you've had! I like the height and contrast with your farmhouse table. They are keepers!
what a score!!!! i vote black!
Haha! Funny how a $6 chair can end up costing so much!!! I do the same thing! But those chairs look awesome and will be beautiful once you decide what you're going to do!
What a deal! I'll give you $50/chair and then you won't have to decide what to do with them! 😁
I like how you incorporate touches of black in your home.
I vote black also!
I think I vote black as well. It just can't be wrong ;)
Wow, what a steal! I love these chairs and love that they are a little taller too! I'm looking forward to seeing what fabulous creativity comes with these chairs from you.
Oh I love them, how fabulous are they and black would be amazing
Oh these are amazing !!! Can't wait to see what you do!! I love chairs just as much what a score!!!
Since you have alot of black accents, I say black too. But I do LOVE that swedish cream too!
I'm in on the Black! What a fantastic deal....... Funny how one thing will lead to another and another!!:)

THAT IS THE BEST DEAL! Glad you pulled the trigger.
ADORE those chairs! I love them painted...and I love the dark and wallpapered walls. I can't make decisions, so I'm no help. But I know I'll love whatever you do!
Awesome! Here's what I'd do. Wallpaper with #3 on your recent mural wallpaper post, paint the chairs a blue from the wallpaper ( I'm thinking a cobalt tone), which would tie in your ginger jars, and hang your gorgeous mirror horizontally to accentuate the length of your sideboard, and encompass more of your ginger jar display ( which would bridge the space between the top of your sideboard and the mirror edge).
I'm imagining that paper to work with your new wing chairs, though if it is a big clash, then I'd go with the green wallpaper, or keep it neutral with the sepia wallpaper, and maybe still keep the chairs a blue to go with your ginger jars. As for the chair seats, I'm envisioning a neutral stripe ( French laundry). If you used the green wallpaper, I'd keep the chairs neutral ( ivory) and upholster the seats in a coral solid or dense pattern in coral tones.
I hope you like my suggestions. I am enjoying your blog from VT, and feel as if we're kindred spirits!
$6????!!!! You are just super lucky Pam! Any way you go on this one, you'll still come out a winner. If they were mine, I would go for black and a nice fabric to re-upholster the cushions. But your table is lighter wood though and your chairs in black might come on too strong... hmmm. I like the idea of putting fab wall paper and keeping the chairs the way it is too, but definitely will re-upholster the cushions along with your 2 head chairs in matching fabrics. I'm sure, whatever you decide, it will be perfect! Good luck!
love them all! amazing find :)
Oh I love them Pam...they look fabulous in your dining room! I vote for black!
They look like they have always belonged there. Awesome! I'd paint them a soft colour, like robin egg blue or a soft teal for a bit of freshness :)
I love them! I did that faux tortoise shell on mine and love it. Yours look beautiful and of course you couldn't pass them up at that price! Hope you have a great week and that your summer is going well! xo Nancy
What a deal...they were practically free...such gorgeous chairs and I know you will be working your magic on them!
It looks like the overwhelming majority is saying you should paint the chairs black, Pam. I think black is always a great option for neutrality with drama. I have to admit, though, that my jaw dropped when I saw the dark walls with chartreuse chairs...just saying ;)
I think the cream they are looks good with your room right now, but it doesn't pop. I think you are looking for the drama. Because of your table and rug, I'm going to go with something a little different. If you didn't want to go dark then I would get some paint swatches that match the colors in your rug. Then look at the most intense darker version of one of those swatches and spray them high gloss in that intense coral or other color in your rug. That way they will go with your existing stuff (which is great) and you will have that bit of drama your looking for. :-)
I found the same set of chairs for a bargain too this summer! We are both having the same decision making issue, haha! They are so good. I have mine white, but I want to bulk up the cushion and need to decide on upholstery. Can't wait to see what you do. xo
I vote for green! Then paint black later when you tire of the green. Perhaps a green that is not too summery so they look appropriate in the fall and winter.
I love these chairs and I would be totally stumped on the color, too. My thought... have you considered removing the round pieces at the top? And maybe even trimming that straight piece that they're attached to even with the bamboo piece across the top? They're totally cute as is, I just thought that would make them look a little more like some of your inspiration photos!
What a steal! I love the classic yet bold feel of the black! It goes with everything too!
