I've always been obsessed with HUGE statement mirrors!
So, imagine my reaction when this popped up as I was casually scrolling
through Craigslist.
It's huge you guys - I brought in the dining room chair for scale!
63 x 88 - Asking $500
Here's how it went down at our house:
ME (screaming): Oh my goodness, I really have to have this!
This is so amazing, come check it out.
(Do you have any idea how many times I've said that? A lot!)
MR. SIMPLE: Well you better hurry and get it.
#thealltimebesthusbandeverinthehistoryoftheworld
I text the seller, who I already feel sorry for because the ad indicates it's her
favorite piece of furniture she's ever owned. :(
TEXT: I LOVE your mirror and would like to buy it, I can pick it up tomorrow.
Would you consider $300?
SELLER: Great, how about $350?
ME: Perfect, I can come first thing in the morning.
When we arrive, she is a young girl and clearly LOVES her mirror,
I try to convince her it couldn't be going to a better home and not only will I LOVE it
as much as she does, but my blog readers will get to see it and they LOVE stuff like this.
When we leave she asks if she can come for coffee to see it,
and emphasizes with an, "I'm serious!"
Mr. Simple is giving me the look with raised eyebrows, but I understand!
I think the dark color feels a little heavy and I'm wondering about a lighter color.
What do you all think about gold or a light color?

OK, I'm calling you Victoria Barnes Junior now. ;) LOVE IT! That is impressive! And yes, I vote for lightening it up! Husbands that go along with our crazy plans and musical furniture are just the best! Enjoy your weekend, Pam! My boy is headed to CO for Spring Break!
What an amazingly beautiful find. Love it the way it is....and I'd probably love it if you change it. "If" I were to change it, and I doubt I would, I'd go gold.
Absolutely love it and I agree on the lighter color
WOW, that is gorgeous and huge! How in the world did you get it home?
WOW! it's giant and amazing!
Once again I must say that you are the Queen of Craigslist!! I love it's hugeness, and the amicable husband who went along with this must-have purchase!! How on earth did you get it home?
WHITE!!! Definitely white. Or cream. What a great find. It's gorgeous.
Wow that is huge!! (i love the title of this post by the way - it made me laugh out loud this morning!) I have no doubt that whatever you do to it will be beautiful Pam! And yes, a gem of a hubby for sure! Have a fab weekend!!
Oh, Jennifer of Dimples & Tangles you are so right. The mirror is fabulous. I would lighten it up with a cream or white paint. Whatever you do, I know it will be beautiful.
That is so awesome! I guess I need to move to Denver to find the best stuff on Craigslist; can't believe the fantastic stuff you come across. I like the idea of gold or a light color.
Love it, love it, love it! You have such a great eye! I vote for high gloss cream or white!
I adore it. I would definitely lighten it up or gold is fabulous too. Maybe even light with some gold highlights dry brushed. Great find.
Holy moly, that's a mirror!!! I like the lighter versions. There will still be a huge amount of interest but it won't feel like it's too ominous for the room. Great find!
Such a score and what a husband!! I'm joining in on the consensus...go light!
I can't wait to see what you do with it! I've wanted a mirror like that to go behind my entry table forever now. I know how much they cost so that's a score. I can relate to that girl who sold you the mirror. I sold my old bedroom furniture I bought when I got married that I thought I would have forever. The woman that bought it on an online board turned out to be an old friend from high school. I asked her to send me pictures after she painted it lol. I never got the pictures, but it's probably for the best!
OH! I love it Pam. What a find and I can definitely see where lighting it up a bit would make it such a stand out in your space. xoxo
Oh my goodness, what a great find!!! This may be one of the most beautiful pieces I have ever see, can't wait to see what you do with it!
Oh my gosh, Pam, you have a charmed touch for finding the greatest treasures on CL!! I am visually a subtle antique gold for that beauty.......
It's stunning, I love it! I feel sorry for the girl who had to give it up :( But it is going to a great home!

Your husband is the best, how did you get it home, how did you get it in the house, and yes, perhaps a bit lighter in color??? Queen of Craigslist!
Holy Mother of Mirrors, Pam! I know whatever you do will be absolutely GORGEOUS!! xox
It's beautiful and I'm sure you'll know exactly how to lightened it for your decor. I'm interested in your answer to the seller's request to visit. I find Craigslist in my area rather scary!
Oh, those are MAGNIFICENT. Yes, paint it lighter! If only I didn't have a little pet bird who flies around the house, I would get a giant mirror in an instant. What a buy!
You lucky lucky lucky woman! I have been looking for a large mirror for a while now. I would definitely make it lighter or more golden or something else.
Yes paint it!!! Love all the inspiration pics....the white, cream and gold!! You are the craigslist queen!!!
I would say that you hit the jackpot yet again on another CG buy!....this mirror is totally amazing!...I love the idea of changing it to either a lighter color or gold...I know that you will transform it to the perfect finish!....I can just imagine transporting that mirror.
OMG it is gorgeous Pam! You are the best at finding deals! Your husband is the best support, too! I say gold but maybe burnish it with some brown shoe polish over top of the gold... good luck! xo Nancy
Such a great find, Pam (and Mr. Simple rocks!). I would paint it a light color that works with your coffee table wardrobe!
It's amazing! I think it will show its true beauty in a much lighter color. Gold is always gorgeous but anything lighter will be beautiful.
Thanks so much everyone!! We rented a truck to get it home and it barely fit! We didn't have any trouble getting it inside though.
Can I borrow your husband? I just need to hear "yes" more often. :-) Great score, as usual! A lighter color would look great!
Pam you always have the best luck on Craigslist...this is a beauty and I say YES to lightening it up!! Can't wait to see what you do!
What a great find! I've always wanted a huge mirror like that! I think painting it lighter would be perfect!
Please do not paint it! Instead I recommend getting what I call 'pot of gold'. Can't remember brand names, but there are plenty out there. It is literally a small jar of gold (or silver or bronze) wax-based paint that you apply with your fingers as a highlight to different raised or crevices on carved wood pieces. You can get it in many finishes, bright gold, antique, flat, etc. Trust me, it makes a world of difference on everything from picture/mirror frames to furniture. I have used this kind of product for years, and it is always a good idea, and an inexpensive one, before making that huge step to paint. I, particularly, have revived antique frames that I was ready to replace. After highlighting the beauty of these pieces, I was relieved I resisted the paint, and I am a big painted furniture fan!
