Best of the Nest Link Party - February

Happy Friday, friends!
We finally had enough snow in Denver for our first snow day yesterday! :) It is
amazing how quickly we can adjust right out of our routine, and get in cozy, lazy day
mode. It had us wishing for an extra day and dreaming of a four day weekend,
 but no such luck.

I'm so excited to introduce you to our February Guest of the Nest,
She is a crazy for color girl, with a whimsical, spunky style, and her
fun and easy new entry, (that she threw together on a whim, btw) couldn't be a more
fitting first impression. So much to love in this awesome little space, pop over and check
out her fabulous DIY light, confetti wall, and find out where you can get those cool
prints for a steal!

Jenna {Rain on a Tin Roof}

I joined 11 other bloggers to share our Coffee Table Styling Tips and Reveals. My
addiction to Craigslist coffee tables came in handy, and I had fun styling three coffee
tables for you. :)

topiaries...the perfect accessory

Happy Thursday, friends!
We're covered in snow like many of you, and although I do love it, thoughts
of spring, gardening and pretty plants are on my mind.
I love the European vibe of topiaries, whether in a weathered, moss covered
clay pot, or a modern white porcelain container.
They're the ideal organic accessory for adding texture, height, and life.
They'll start showing up at Home Depot, Lowes and even Whole Foods
soon. Rosemary is one of my favorites.

craigslist scoooore...

My Craigslist addiction was in full force on the weekend, I couldn't be more excited
about this pair of vintage Henredon wingbacks I scored. I was immediately smitten with
the vibrant colors, birds and peonies, and for $40 each I couldn't pass them up!

This photo was buried in an ad among several other items for sale (with a vague title)
I just happened to scroll through.

The gentleman I met said he was selling for his 88 year old mother, who'd purchased them
in the '60s. Based on the details and down cushions I'm guessing they were a custom order.
When I asked him about their pristine condition, he said,
"They were in the parlor and no one was allowed to sit in them!"

We didn't waste any time breaking them in!

I've always thought a pair of chairs would be perfect in our front bay window,
but it's caused quite the dilemma of how arrange everything.
Clearly, I have a tad too many Craigslist scoooores on my hands!

Stay tuned, and I'll be back to share more when I get this chaos under control. :)

coffee table reveal and styling tips

I was thrilled when Cindy @ Rough Luxe and Mary Ann @ classic.casual.home
invited me to participate in their Project Design Series - Styling a Coffee Table.
I also knew there was no way of avoiding it - I would have to out myself!
Here it goes, my coffee table confession: I'm a serious collector/hoarder of Craigslist
coffee tables. The only thing I love more is coffee itself! If you know of a support group
let me know!

In the meantime, say hello to my venti White Mocha with whip...

The key to keeping neutrals interesting is lots of varied textures!
Wood, concrete, glass, greenery, flowers, pottery, shiny, matte, smooth, rough.

Pretty doesn't have to be pricey! Everything on this table came from Goodwill,
the books $1 each on half off day, the wood bowl, the vases I bought a few years ago
 and spray painted.

Wheat grass is quick, easy and inexpensive to grow, the great texture and freshness
can't be beat. Here are my instructions, if you've never tried it you'll be hooked!
I brought my DIY concrete spheres and old glass float in from the garden for some
rustic texture.

Next came my grande Cinnamon Dolce Latte...

Black and white stripes and leopard patterns easily mix with a multitude of colors
and combinations. I'm sure you've seen that leopard tray over and over in my vignettes,
it was a simple Ikea DIY a few years ago. A pretty box to hide the remotes is a must!

I love my foo dog I found thrifting not long ago, he gives the table the perfect
bit of quirk.  The greenery in the clear square vase is the fern filler that came with
the roses (I used the same on the first coffee table, too).

And lastly, get a shot of my tall Espresso no foam...

My favorite greenery is anything from our yard, but this time of year I'm out
of luck and used this is faux greenery and floral stem from Hobby Lobby.
Situate the interesting bloom in a smaller vase in front of the larger one to show
it off nicely.

Three Simple Steps to a Stylish Coffee Table

Create 3 Sections on your table

Section #1
A tray or larger books placed beneath two vases of flowers or greenery
(one tall vase and one smaller - mix up your greenery)
add one other object to create a grouping of three items

Section #2
A couple low books
(a great place to inject pattern)
a magnifying glass always looks great on a pile of books

Section #3
An interesting object
(a box to hold remotes, something quirky or whimsical,
something sentimental, a pretty bowl, an antique, anything you love)

I can't wait to see what these talented friends have to share,
guaranteed inspiration galore!

And a huge thank you to Cindy and Mary Ann for such a great idea!

on my thrifting list... vintage decanters

Recently I've started paying more attention to vintage decanters, and found
a couple while thrifting. Hopefully, the beginnings of  a beautiful collection.
Besides being functional for entertaining, they'd make a gorgeous display in
my  built-ins in our family room, or hutch in the living room, or buffet in the
dining room, or centerpiece for a party, or....
