dark moody bathroom...

Happy First Day of Fall, friends!
We had glorious weather over the weekend and ended with my favorite way to spend
a Sunday ~ a family get-together to celebrate September birthdays, eat, and watch football.
I also fit in time to finish up our dark moody bathroom, I'm loving the warm, cozy vibe
 for fall and winter.

I've been smitten with Behr's Mined Coal, charcoal colored paint, since using it in one of
my all-time favorite makeovers, Detail Boy's bedroom redo. I found some leftover, so I
went with it on a whim one day. I envisioned a quick afternoon paint job, but after getting
the first coat on I noticed the tape lines from the previous stripes were visible, so I had to
go back and sand them all down...ugh!

Awhile back I found this lion's head door knocker at Homegoods, I thought it would be
a unique towel ring, and added some gold gilding to the ring. Of course, a new towel
ring calls for a new towel, a rich color with stripes and tassels, yes please. They have
a great collection at World Market right now.

On the opposite side of our DIY dresser turned vanity I hung one of my simply framed
flamingo prints. It had been in the dining room but made its way back to the bathroom
 to change things up.

I still love our Hampton Bay Swing Arm wall sconces from Home Depot.
I gave them a custom look with a simple narrow gross grain ribbon in dark charcoal
when we first got them. They give off a beautiful glow in the evening.
As you can tell, our painted vanity and painted fixtures are still holding up great after
a year and a half.

More fall tweaking is on the way, are you in the mood for any changes yet?

Pam, I knew we could be friends in real life already, but when you said you decided to paint your bathroom "on a whim", it sealed the deal. I love this color, and you are so clever with that door knocker-turned towel holder! I love that unexpected element. And your sconces have me wishing I had picked up some that I saw recently for my dark moody bathroom! Well done!

Oh Pam, this is beautiful! Now I am heading over to take a look at detail boy's room makeover as my redhead was supposed to have his room completed over the summer. I hope you had a truly wonderful weekend!

This looks so warm and chic - love! I had the same exact issue with the powder room in our old house - got done with my paint job only to notice that you saw the edges of the old stripes - grrr.

Pam, your bathroom makeover looks great, and the towel holder is brilliant. I've been toying with the idea of using black paint in a room (or three) and seeing your dark, moody bathroom is definitely pushing me to get going!

Oh good grief... I bought a door knocker like that last year and took it back when I realized we have a window in our front door (duh!) and it wouldn't work. HELLO towel ring... love that! Now I need to find one again! LOVE your new bathroom, so rich looking! And, I was worried about the lines with the stripes. If I ever paint over Em's I think I'll have to do the same thing. Lovely as always, Pam!

Pam, that color is so delicious in your bathroom! I have charcoal in our basement but I am dying to use it elsewhere, it's such a rich and cozy color isn't it? It looks sooooooo great with the metallics of the mirror, lights and that awesome towel holder!

Yes! I love your bathroom. Especially the lion door knocker/turned towel ring. So clever! I have been looking for a real knocker for our door that is a lion. I need to keep an eye out at home goods and TJMaxx! Thanks for the suggestion.

What a gorgeous color combination! I, too, love that lion's head door knocker. What a clever one you are. That towel looks marvelous too. Oh my goodness, I just could gush a while about your clever decisions in this room, but you get it. I love it!

Love, love this color! Everything looks so elegant ~ as usual. The towel holder is genius! I love the towel too and yes, World Market has so many unique & unusual things. If I could change the bathroom here, I'd use the same paint.

I always love seeing a dark room that works!! So many times we're afraid it will make a space feel small. Not here, this moody color is great ;)

This is beautiful, Pam! I love this bathroom each time you post it, but the charcoal is so cozy! I have been considering painting our downstairs powder room a dark graphite color, as well...just love it, and it reminds me of my 2 Weimaraners :) Beautiful job!

Pam, all I can say is just wow! Designing a bathroom like this would really tie into the rest of my home, and your progress pictures are truly bringing about some new ideas of my own. I really love the vase you placed on the sink too. Where did you find such a unique item such as that? Finally, a bathroom look both my husband and I could agree on!
