one room challenge...week 3, a crazy coincidence

Oh my gosh everyone, you are not going to believe this coincidence!!
So, remember in Week 1 I mentioned an Ikea Rast Hack was part of the plan,
well my hack was inspired by designer Ryan Korban's beautiful chest covered in ostrich skin.
Mine has yet to be crossed off  the to-do list because I spent waaaaay too much time trying
to find a faux ostrich or emu in a color similar to his.

Ryan Korban

Here are a few samples I ordered after striking out at an insane number of local stores.
On the left is 'cream,' - not exactly what I was hoping for, but time was running out,
and if I didn't make a decision I was going to be in a pickle!

Guess what appears in the weekend section of the Wall Street Journal?
A tad freakish!
An article about Ryan Korban, in which they happen to mention,
"the ostrich skin took nine months to customize the pale color"
Arrrrgh!! Doesn't look like Joann's is my source!

Other than searching for that I found time to start on our ceiling fan,
I'm making it disappear as best as I can by blending it into the white ceiling,
inspired by this one! No time to take this baby down, keep your fingers crossed!

My time cruising the fabric stores wasn't a total loss, these will be appearing...

I scored these on Craigslist not long ago for $20 each, I think one of them will work,
with a little paint and fabric...

Have you noticed nothing is actually finished?
I'm so easily distracted, when I should be working I do things like
take pictures out the bathroom window. :)

Next week the headboard makes a debut! :)

That dresser looks amazing. I can't wait to see what you will do with everything. And I think it's perfectly ok to get distracted after all you need some time to stop and smell the roses or take pictures of beautiful trees, right?

Love the chairs! I think online fabric store has faux ostrich. x

So much gorgeous-ness! Your inspiration nightstand is stunning, the fabric colors and patterns are are so beautiful, and the chairs are so unique. I can't wait to see how it all comes together. (BTY- I think your first ostrich sample is very pretty.)

You are making progress even though it might seem like nothing has been completed yet. I have come across the grey/lilac floral fabric recently when shopping for a client project although I did not end up using it. I look forward to seeing what you do with it and excited to see your reupholstering.

Are y'all having this little snow? That should keep you home and limit the "pretty" outside the window!
It all looks gorgeous so far....

Oh, I use to drool over ostrich skin. I hope you find the one your looking for. I think the first 2 are gorgeous and the middle one looks the closest. That Ikea hack is going to be amazing!

I remember Janell Beals at House of Fifty used faux ostrich for a bench cushion….maybe another cream that would work for you? I can't wait to see how all your choices come together….I love the fabric selections!! http://blog.houseoffifty.com/2011/03/surprising-choice-but-im-excited.html

I was reading through thinking you were going to stumble upon an ostrich skin chest already made. Hopefully you'll find what you're looking for. Love the other finds & that pic out your bathroom window.

I actually bought faux ostrich ( in the cream color) and covered a large pillow with it. They may still have the fabric at my local fabric store (and bonus...it is a discount fabric store).I can take a picture of my pillow. Let me know if you need for me to check on it for you! leedy.melissa@gmail.com

I forgot to mention...I ACTUALLY saw the fabric at Jo-Ann's (crafts/fabrics).

We'll wait months on you to figure out how to pale the fabric. ha! ;)

So are you still going with the ostrich skin?? I just love that idea. Love your creativity, too.

Hmmmm I was taking pictures of trees as well...progress can wait, right? Your blog is aptly named...it is the simple details (for my own home) that always drag me down as well! Love all your ideas and I think those chairs will be wonderful!

I love the ostrich skin and am using it on bar stools. I have no worries, you always move mountains when necessary. Great shot, by the way ;).

That ostrich skin will look like a million bucks! And your fabric story is awesome. Love it.

So much great progress, even if nothing is finished yet :)

Linda {Calling it Home} said...

That is so funny that the article ran while you were fabric hunting. At least you should feel better knowing it was not humanly possible to find it in that exact color. Good luck with that fan...noting is finished here, either.

9 months? i love it, but wow. I hope your sample colours will work for you. Love all the little glimpses. Love those fabric swatches

Have you tried Joseph Noble for the faux ostrich? I just had some kitchen chairs recovered in some- they have several colors to choose from. I actually have a little of mine left over- not sure how much you need. Email me amanda@amandacarolinteriors.com if you want me to send you some photos of it.

I found out the light fixture I wanted won't be here until the new year which forced me back to the drawing board! Hopefully something will show up for both of us- good luck!

I have searched everyone for some decent faux animal skins too and haven't had any luck. Hope you can find something!! I do like the white croc...where did you find that one at? xo Kristin
