bamboo dresser tossed to the curb...

This beauty has me distracted today!
I LOVE my friends,
they always think of me when they see a beat up old piece of furniture curbside.
 Thank you, sweet friend!
Yep, it's mine! Just out on the curb for the taking.
I knew all of you would love it as much as I do. So many people had to pass it by,
it was right in front of our elementary school.

Although it has a pretty finish on parts of it, the top is a disaster with burn marks that
will most likely have to be painted over or addressed in some way. Sure, some of the
hardware is missing, but did you notice those charming little casters?
Guess those minor details scared them away.

What would you do with this gem? :)

gorgeous!! you could always get some iron on veneer if you want natural wood. the burl looking fronts look too cool to paint unless you did a paint/stain combo. i also like high gloss. nice find!

Its lovely - Cant wait to see what you are going to do with it! I would probably paint it :)

Oh...I love it! I would not have passed it by! Normally, I like everything painted but I have a soft spot for birdseye maple. This is so unusual....the mix of birdseye and bamboo. I understand it has issues so you might have to paint it. But I really like it as is...hope you can find hardware. I can envision it in robin's egg blue but then I can envision anything in robin's egg blue.

Love the piece. I would have picked it up myself. Definitely pain it. The color, not so sure, but maybe a gold color or silver would be cool to see. Maybe even a crackel finish. Can't wait to see what you do with it.

Wow! What a great piece! I'm thinking a bold color would be amazing if you have to paint it - peacock blue with gold pulls or even a bold emerald green. Can't wait to see what you do!

glossy black like that other gorgeous bamboo one you did!

You made me gasp. Say what? Free? I want it too.

Why oh why would someone throw that beauty away! I can't wait to see you work your magic on it.

Ooooh, beautiful. Love it naturally but you know I can't leave most things alone. I think a deep blue or a green with maybe some gilding wax.

Your friends know you well! I'm so not the furniture refinisher so I'll leave the finish up to you pros.

I am just waiting for the day when I see something as awesome as that sitting on the curb!!

SHUT UP!!! Free? That is amazing and looks similar to the Williams-Sonoma Home one. Big score.

I bet you could paint it but keep the burled drawer fronts.. maybe a prussian blue highgloss with the gold drawer fronts left natural.. I cant see what conditions they are it, but someones loss is definitely your gain here!!!

Wow, wish I could find nice curb side treasures around here. I would paint it a glossy color.

Wow what a beautiful piece! If you like the original color I would try sanding the top a bit and then applying a colored briwax to cover the scars. It would be lovely painted black as well! What a find!!

I'm so glad that we see the potential in things that no one else does...we get the best stuff that way! Hmmm, what about leaving the drawers as-is if they're pretty and painting the case a glossy color...even your coffee table color would be beautiful! Too bad that the hardware is missing, it's so pretty! You could use the 4 on the bottom 2 drawers and do something complimentary on the top drawer, or just use those four on something else and I know you'd come up with something fabulous for all 6...brass perhaps?

I went to school at the wrong time! The finish looks pretty. I would be tempted to paint it high gloss black and keep the drawer fronts as is. Then paint all black if it's too busy. I would definitely keep some of that cool hardware.

Wow, one of the best curb side finds ever! If I was lucky enough to find something like that I'd consider adding a leather top embossed on the edges with small gold lines.

Unknown said...

What about adding that ostrich material to the front of the drawers then painting the case in a high gloss?

You have a great eye for seeing the potential beauty in other's cast offs…..I so love that about you Pam! I know you will work your magic on this one…something colorful perhaps??

Susan - Uniquely Yours or Mine said...

Freaking awesome! I would paint it red with gold accents, have fun with it!

Pam...I'm so jealous...cant believe you found this dresser...and free! It makes my bamboo find look pitiful! That's just not fair... all kidding a side....
I wouldn't paint it...its to cool as is...just redo the top...is it vintage?

Aaah, so sad I don't live anywhere near you Pam! I would grab that in an instant. Are you sure you don't have the space for it? I would paint it black or kelly green with gold accents!

It never ceases to amaze me what gets tossed to the curb. One of my husband's hobbies is driving around our neighborhood (and others) on bulk trash pick-up day looking for gems like your bamboo chest here that people have thrown out. At first I was like, "Ewwww. You're digging things out of the trash?" But he doesn't "dig" and he's turned it into a nice little side income.

I just wish wish I had your DIY talent. I can't wait to see what you did with this chest! Is there an "after" post? I absolutely love it. What a seriously great find. (I'm a little envious.)
