labor day bbq...

Although we're back to school, I never really think of summer as officially on it's way
out until after Labor Day...only 12 more days.
We'll happily be saying farewell to the hottest summer on record by hosting a family bbq.
I'm sharing my usual do-ahead-style menu along with some simple table decor ideas
early enough so you can use them if you'd like.

Grilled Beef Sliders on Bakery Rolls with Assorted Toppings
Caramelized Onions
Sauteed Mushrooms
Cheddar, Swiss, Pepper Jack Cheese
Chipotle Mayonnaise
Blue Cheese Dressing
Pickles, Lettuce, Tomato

Individual bags of Assorted Boulder Potato Chips
(Malt Vinegar & Sea Salt...my guilty pleasure!)

Southern Baked Beans single serve jars ~ Paula Deen's recipe here.
(I tweak the recipe a bit by adding an extra 1/2 cup of brown sugar and cooking the beans covered
at 300 degrees for a couple of hours, then I'll transfer to the jars and keep in the warm oven.)

Apple and Cherry Pie a la mode ~ in a jar!
I found this recipe 3 years ago from Our Best Bites here.
You can make ahead and freeze them - they go from freezer to oven to table perfectly!
Aren't they the cutest?

I like using these old fashioned plastic burger baskets, I found mine at a restaurant
supply store years ago, I purchase paper liners there as well. I think I've seen them at Target.
I purchased the red & white check napkins from Sur La Table, I mix them with solid white.

Simple decor ~ Black-eyed Susans from our garden, placed in empty wine bottles in my
old Pepsi crate will be the centerpiece.

Are you ready to say farewell to summer?

Oh, how I would love to be a dinner guest! What a fun tablescape and yummy menu. Much fancier than our usual hot dogs and hamburgers!

It all looks lovely. I like the idea of the individual portions in the jars.
We had the summer that never was, so nothing to say farewell to!

I always love your entertaining ideas Pam!
HOW cute are the little jars for beans and for the pies? I have to find the little glass jars for freezer to oven somewhere - that is such a cute serving idea!

I won't miss this summer weather, either....but I will miss summer. That burger recipe has me wanting one now...its 7:30 in the morning. Have you ever tried jalapeno chips? My fave.

We had a very cool day yesterday that gave me a little taste of what's to come. Gotta say I'm looking forward to it. Once again, you've knocked it out of the ballpark with your beautiful party design. You truly have a gift, my friend.

Yum, you're making me hungry. We have stores around here that stock Boulder potato chips and they are awesome. My favorite are the BBQ but I will have to try the salt & vinegar - chips are my guilty pleasure as well. Do you guys have Herr's potato chips out there? They're my local PA favorite. This is great Pam and sounds like a perfect way to end the summer and roll into Fall (my favorite season).

NO. A big loud resounding NO - I am NOT ready to say good-bye to summer. I don't like winter AT ALL so I'd be glad to see summer stay till spring!

I'm always ready for summer to end because fall generally means milder temps here in TX. Your Labor Day BBQ looks like a delightful event. Those sliders are making me hungry! I like the simple bottles in the crate, and the black eyed Susan blooms are the perfect touch.
