one room challenge...smoke and mirrors

Hope you had a great weekend, it was glorious in Denver and you'd never know it was
November. Ours was filled with hours of sports activities.
I wanted to share some of the behind the scenes details from the reveal of our bedroom.
Lots of little tips on how I created things and answers to your questions I've received.

HEADBOARD:
If you remember I was so disappointed when I first saw the headboard, reason was
because it was so short, so this is how I created the kingdom look I was hoping for:  :)

Instead of sitting the headboard on the floor I attached it to the wall using D-rings at my
desired height, 15" above the floor. Bed risers weren't the exact height I wanted so I
used 4 - 2 x 4's, 2 on each side of the bed resting on the bed frame.
(Home Depot cut 12' pieces in half for me.)

CABLE CORDS:
Did you wonder where all my cable cords were?

I detest all of those ugly cords!
The cable outlet is being re-located right below the tv, I'm cutting a hole in the bottom
of the drawer and attaching the cord to the back side of the console, down the leg and
across the bottom on the underside.

CEILING FAN:
It's not one of my favorite features of the room, so I chose not to show it with the reveal.
I do like it much better now that it fades into the ceiling. I added clear globes to update it.
(Oops, I just noticed I don't have the pretty pulls on here.)

BLACK & WHITE PRINT:
I had the 30" x 40" print made at Staples for $5 and used an Ikea Ribba frame. I scanned a
photo from a book, saved it to a USB drive and took it to Staples, they made the copy in
 about 15 minutes.

MIRRORS:
The gold pieces above the mirrors are heavy antique iron pieces I've had forever,
I couldn't ever figure out what to do with them. I painted them gold, and attached them
to the wall above the mirrors.

SHADES:
Blinds.com is the source for the woven shades - Natural Weave Bleached

BED SKIRT:
I'd never used these bedskirt pins, but remembered my friend had in her
super easy diy bedskirt tutorial. I simply measured the perimeter of the mattress for my
length of fabric and the drop from the top of the mattress to the floor, adding about 6"
to allow for attaching to the mattress. And, secured with these little gems! Super easy!

Have you had enough of ORC? I'm ready for a new project!
Stop by tomorrow for a fun giveaway! :)

So sorry, Blogger has been messing with my spacing lately. It looks fine in draft
and when I publish it is all wacky!  Sometimes I have energy to redo, but tonight I'm done!

It looks awesome! I did the exact same thing with my headboard to add height! Don't you love all the smoke and mirrors that go into a room?

I love all your smoke and mirror ideas, you are, as we like to say out here, wicked smart :)
I've recently had some photos printed at Staples, what a deal for a huge piece of art. Your photo of Italy is one of my favorite elements in your room!

Lots of great detail Mrs. Simple Details!!! The new globes on the ceiling fan may get copied over here! My husband was in Denver this past week-end to visit his cousin and a friend and LOVED the great weather.

It's all those "little" details that cause non-diyers to throw in the towel. Who am I kidding...it's those same details that make me want to throw things out the window! Great job at making things work and sharing your wisdom with the rest of us! Thanks for the link love, too.

I used to design model homes and we would sometimes do something similar to a headboard to achieve the height we wanted. And we ALWAYS used those skirt pins! They're amazing! The skirt never droops or moves when the mattress moves. Great looking room!

I didn't know those bed skirt pins existed, but I already want them! Your room turned out beautifully Pam :)

The bedroom turned out beautiful Pam. Using those Ikea mirrors with the gold decorative pieces on top is really stunning. I am just wondering how the bed sleeps with the 2 x 4 's underneath it? Do you notice a difference and is it stable when you go to sit on it? Just my curious mind :) Awesome job, and such great DIY projects to pin!

Love the bedskirt idea - so simple but never knew such a thing as bedskirt pins existed! Thanks also for the source for the blinds - I got some samples from Smith & Noble but I'm not sold on anything so I'll give Blinds.com a try too!

REALLY?!? Bed skirt pins - BRILLIANT! I had no idea, but I'd love to try it. My bed skirt is always sagging here & there. Thanks so much.

Warmly, Michelle
PS - I've been crazy busy, so I haven't visited in a bit. It's been so fun to catch up on your awesome blog. Have a very Happy Thanksgiving!

That headboard gets me every time.
And I'm so with you on the cords. I hate seeing them and I love your solution to deal with them
