I missed you guys last week! We had a wonderful time in Copenhagen and I'll
share all the scoop with you in a post soon. It was great to get away and
re-energize, (as I'm yawning) although we're still trying to get back on schedule.
If you've been reading for long you know every year I plant a big bunch of decorative
wheat grass, and always remind you when it's time. Well, it's time!
I love the fresh pops of green and great texture to use in my decor for Spring and Easter,
and it's super easy and super inexpensive.
Last year I planted some in tea cups to use at our Easter table...
It's not fussy, you can plant it in any container, I used a decorative box...
If you'd like yours by Easter you should give it two weeks, here are the simple
instructions and I guarantee you don't need a green thumb.
Winter Wheat Berries (Red or White) - $1.60
I used about 1/2 of this 2 pound bag, purchased from a natural foods store.
If you're in Denver I buy mine at Vitamin Cottage.
Put a few small stones in the bottom of your container and fill with potting soil.
Using a spray bottle moisten the soil with water.
Spread a layer a of seeds over the soil and spray with water again to moisten seeds.
Cover with a bit of soil, about 1/8 inch.
I spray mine with water about 3 times/day for the first few days until they sprout and
then you can ease up and water once/day.
They don't have to be in sun, but a bright room is good.
I like mine thick, but if you prefer a more wispy look use less seeds.
I spray painted some of my terra cotta pots that I'll be using for our Easter table.
I don't have a plan yet, but thought gold seemed like a good bet!
I basically plant a LOT of pots, I like to use them in other rooms around the house, on
the dining table, island where I serve food, on tables outside if it's going to be spring like!
And, I always plant an extra... :)

Have you tried it yet?

Pam, I can't wait to see the pictures from your trip! Great wheat grass tips and lovely planters and tea cups- so cute. I just planted some too for the first time and I can't wait to have a little grass pop up soon.
OMG. My cat would be in heaven! :o)
I love the look of wheat grass in planters. After such a long winter I crave the look of bright green grass so much. My cats would think they are all for them though ;)
Wow you really jump right back into it when you get back from vacation!! Thank you for this reminder, I want to do this en masse…..I wonder if my bag of seeds from last year would still be good? Have you ever used leftovers from the previous year?
I was just 'volunteered' to host Easter this year. Guess I need to put a little thought into the decor! Glad you're back and that you had a great time. Looking forward to hearing about it!
Sneautiful post Pam and I look forward to your pots of grass, your Easter table settings and spring accessories! Have a great week and best of luck on the ORC!! Xo Nancy
Did you know sneautiful was a new word? I hate commenting by iPhone! Have a beautiful day!
Very cute! This would be a great project to do with the kids, too. Welcome back! We just got back from Europe last week and I'm still not back in the swing of things. Where's my hotel maid and why do I have to actually cook dinner? I need to go back on vacation, lol.
Wheat grass is one of my favorites! I only wish my yard looked like that :).
We missed you too!! Glad you had a great trip and am loving the wheat grass tip - have never done it but it looks even easy enough for this plant killing girl to try!
Very cute Pam....glad you had a great trip!
Love that! and you can clip away and blend it up too!!
Wish I had time for this it looks so festive! I am filing this for next year when I have time (hopefully)! I am posting on my facebook for others who do have time!
Lisa - I have used seeds from the previous year and they've never failed me!! However, I'm always to chicken when I'm counting on them for my Easter table and a blog post. I figure I'd be kicking myself if it was the one time it didn't work! :)
Thanks for the planting tip Pam! I've always love wheat grass and I have unfortunately a couple of faux ones around, would love to grow the real thing if I can!
love how you used them in tea cups! So pretty!
gorgeous! you are on the ball! love the gold pots and i cannot wait to hear about copenhagen!
Genius! I think I'll be doing this this weekend!!
You are making me PINE for spring so much my heart hurts. I am watching a snow/ice storm right now. Sigh . . .
Can't wait to hear about your amazing trip....and love all of your wheat grass containers/projects!..
I love this reminder -- what a great project to do with little ones too. I bet my girls would love watching the grass sprout and keeping up with the spraying. While you are at it, can you remind us when to plant paper whites too?
Shoot,
I planted mine aprox two weeks ago, and they never sprouted -- nada, nothing!!
I initially put the pots outside, but the birds got them the VERY. NEXT. MORNING. So, I brought them back inside, and they just didn't sprout! I was pretty diligent about keeping them moist. I'm wondering if I had wheat berries that had been processed somehow - I bought them at Sprouts (how ironic!) in the "bulk foods" section, and I saw potting soil when I was at Dollar Tree, so grabbed that - maybe IT was defective???
Now, I'll be the first to admit, I don't have a green thumb, but you made this sound so do-able! I had no grass for Easter.
MBR Plus gorgeous! you are on the ball! voopoo mod love the gold pots and i cannot wait to hear about copenhagen!voopoo drag kit
