Hey everyone, just a quick post today as I'm finishing the Christmas decor,
prepping food, and cleaning my house for my girlfriend party tonight, and I don't have
anything cute to wear, so I'm hoping to find time for shopping, too!
Fingers crossed they don't need to open a drawer for any reason,

because I've already started stashing things. :)
And, because every blog post needs a pretty picture, yesterday I noticed these pretty
rooms decked out for Christmas...

Congrats Liza!!
I'm finally upgrading to a DSLR camera, for all my blogging photos over the past two years
I've used a Canon Point and Shoot, Power Shot SD970 IS
which I highly recommend if you're looking for that type of camera.
I really don't like pouring over reviews and analyzing them, so I'm turning to you,
if you have something you love, please share.

I'd love to get a DSLR…hopefully soon! Happy Holidays!
Have fun at your party.....sounds like such fun! I love Nikon and just got the new Nikon 3200 and so far loving the quality of pictures. Really crisp and the colors/resolution are amazing. VERY user friendly which is super important:) Have fun tonight!
oh my goodness- thank you for sharing my dining room! :)
and i love my canon rebel! i have the lowest grade one out there i think but it works for me and was around $500.
I heart Cassie's dining room so much! I have been eyeing darker paint colors for our master bathroom (but it's another wallpaper removal project, ugh).
Anyway, I have a Nikon D90 and I *love* it. It's been very reliable, straight forward to use and just an all around good camera. I highly recommend a 35mm f/1.8 or 50mm lens to go along with it. Great for low light shots (of kids or for blogging). :-)
I was thinking your girlfriend party was tonight - how fun!! Have a wonderful time!
I am a Canon girl. I have the Canon Rebel T3i and love it. After almost a dozen years of owning DSLR cameras I still don't know how to use all the functions to their capability but love playing with it. So excited for you!
Love Cassie's dining room too. I have an old Nikon D60 that my kids dropped 3 times already ;)
Pretty rooms!! I need a new camera too Pam...right now I'm using my Nikon D5000 which I love but it needs repair... and I think what the cost of the repair will be I could go and buy a new camera.
Love my Canon Rebel. Have fun at your party, can't wait to see pics!! :)
Pam,
I just purchased a new camera and love it. It's the Cannon EOS Rebel SLT. Check it out!
Congratulations to the Lulu and Georgia winner!!!

I can talk cameras all day, but I will try and restrain myself! It really depends what you want to do with your camera, if you only want it for blog photos, then an entry level camera will probably work just great for you. For Nikon I'd recommend a D5100, or for Canon a Rebel. THere's a huge variation in rebels, so just check to see if the features you want are included (i.e. video). It will most likely come with a kit lens, but for blog posts you want a fairly wide angle. If it has an 18-55 kit lens, it will work for room shots, but you might still need a tripod so you can slow your shutter down. How exciting!
If you're familiar with Canon, I'd go with the Canon Rebel. I use Canon and think they are well designed. Customer service is fabulous. You can get different lenses depending on what you want to shoot. The Rebel will be a good introduction for you.
Have a wonderful party, Pam! Such pretty photos. Sorry I'm no help on the camera issue.

Love the inspirational pictures! Last year I bought a Canon D3100 - one of the cameras recommended on ShootFlyShoot.com. I absolutely love it and others have asked about it as the pics are great. Worth looking at other options they have recommended on the website.
After all that.... it was the Nikon D3100 and not Canon (my older point-and-shoot)! Good luck, Pam!
Have fun at your party! I know your friends will think everything is lovely and perfect, even if you're feeling stressed! We started with a Sony DSLR, but after several years I've recently switched to a Canon T3i. Ray did the research and we though this was the best buy in the mid-range dslrs. Love that it does video, too! Got a great bundle deal at Sam's, and right now they're even a little lower-saw it today for $699 for a bag, kit body+lens, zoom lens, hdmi cable, memory card, and software. Everything you need, however, a 50 mm lens is a great extra, and you'll want a few filters to protect your lenses. Can't wait to hear the details about tonight!
I highly recommend Nikon!
I'm a Nikon girl ... got the D3200 for Christmas last year and love it! xo
Cant wait to see photos of that fab party!!!
So wish I was going to be at your party tonight! Hope it's a blast and I can't wait to see/read the details.
I love my Nikon D5100 - I'm a Nikon gal all the way! When I wanted to buy a camera all the bloggers who's photos I loved were shooting with Nikon.
The site I did a lot of reading on is Kenrockwell.com - he has a boatload of information about a lot of cameras and Nikon is his fav!
Nikon D3100...or 3200...or 5100. All depends on how many bells and whistles you want. I have the D3100, and it's plenty for me and my needs.
I am the worst person to ask! I bought a DSLR camera last spring and have barely used it! Every now and then I pull it out to learn but I haven't taken any award winning pictures with the thing yet! I should make that a New Years resolution! Good luck and have a fabulous time at your party!
Cheers! - Shelley
I use a Cannon Rebel….love it and fairly easy to learn….
I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC-G5 and it's an awesome camera! It's not a true DSLR because it uses a video to show the picture in the viewfinder. But you really are viewing what is seen through the lens. Mostly I love it's size. So many DSLR cameras were too big for me to carry around and this one is just right!
I just have to say your photos already look so great on the blog. I can't believe they are from a point and shoot. I am sure they will just look more amazing with a DSLR. I just got one in October and have soo much to learn! I have the Cannon Rebel T4i but can't really review it since it is so new to me! So far so good.
