paperwhites ~ it's time to plant & deal alert

Hey everyone, surprise a weekend post!
I'm popping in quickly to let you know it's time to plant your paperwhites, and Lowes
has just reduced them to 50% off. My bag of eight bulbs regularly $6.98 was $3.50,
a steal for beautiful natural Christmas decor. They're in the section with the tulip bulbs.

Last year I planted mine in inexpensive Ikea stainless steel bowls that I spiffed up with
gold paint and a gold base here

If you need pretty inspiration for planting ideas you can find it in a post I did
last year here.

Btw, I share these kinds of tips on Instagram whenever I run across them,
if you'd like go here to follow along.

Enjoy the weekend, friends!

one room challenge ~ a craigslist bedroom reveal

Thank you so much for stopping by to check in on the One Room Challenge Reveal
of my friend's master bedroom. If you're just now catching up she's the sweetest,
hard working, single mom, who went through a divorce last year - and was most
deserving of a fabulous master bedroom for herself.
I'm most excited to share that a big budget wasn't in the cards and her stylish new
room is brought to you by several Craigslist scores, Walmart, Ikea and DIYs!
But first, a huge thank you to Linda @ Calling it Home for her work putting
the ORC together, and endless support and encouragement!

I mentioned before that she was a neutral loving girl, who didn't want to commit to
color, but her favorite rooms she kept showing me had pops of color, she went out of
her comfort zone big time and agreed to this 'daring' combination. :) We went with a
neutral background that she could easily change up.
BEFORE
First up was rearranging the furniture, placing the bed under the window and white
paint from top to bottom immediately opened the room up.  Craigslist score #1,
the over sized lantern is a great scale for the high ceilings. Craigslist score #2,
the Wisteria x- benches we had reupholstered in a linen blend leopard.
The neutral upholstered headboard from Walmart is impressive quality for the bargain
price. We chose a simple silhouette against the busy combination of  windows and panes.
The bed covering the windows (although not ideal, but our best option)
wasn't a concern in this sun drenched space with a southern exposure.
Craigslist score #3 - We were beside ourselves when these vintage Drexel campaign
chests showed up for a steal! They're large and offer amazing storage and surface
space for a lamp and pretty styling (a bonus).
She found the gorgeous pair of lamps at Homegoods, when we were trying them
out I thought it would be fun to place the pillow fabric on the diagonal to repeat that
element, but it meant we needed more fabric and a little miracle worker to help us
out last minute ~ we are so fortunate to have the BEST seamstress,
thank you sweet, Erika, you are a gem!
We added Greek key trim to give the fur throw a custom detail.
   BEFORE
She thought we could keep that brown beast - not a chance!
Thank goodness for Craigslist score #4, something unique to disquise the tv, and after
a makeover with Annie Sloan chalk paint (more to come) she's using it as a media
 cabinet and dresser.
BEFORE

The tv component is right under the vase and book.
And, it gives off a beautiful, warm glow at night, we're pretty smitten with it.
Craigslist score #5, this huge ornate mirror popped up one day, eeek, it was
perfect for our big blank wall! We paired it with artwork from Homegoods.

She had her handyman add molding to the flat closet doors, and we painted it metallic gold.
Thanks for all your input, you guys won her over! :)
ONE MORE BEFORE

I'll be sharing all the sources and prices and details of our budget friendly room

This idea is brilliant!
They built a partition to close off the bedroom in a 400 square foot studio apartment.

I've used this photo before when I recommended the Ektorp sofa,

best of the nest link party ~ october

Happy Halloween, friends!
Can you believe I haven't bought any candy yet? I'm the worst at grabbing the
harmless little bite size bars every time I walk by until the entire bag is empty. I've tried
putting them in the freezer or hiding them in a place that takes a lot of effort to get at,
but I'm relentless, so it's best to wait until the last possible moment to pick them up. You?
Anyway, the last Friday of the month brings us to Best of the Nest and I'm anxious to
see what you've been up to. Here's what happened around our nests this month...

I shared a fresh modern teen girl's room, filled with color, DIY painted
bamboo furniture, a gallery wall and fun accessories!

Pam @ Simple Details

Lisa's floor to ceiling bulletin board is the newest addition to her spiffy entry from
the garage. The perfect spot to reflect on the memories she's captured over the years.
Lisa @ Shine your Light

Kris created this stunning office gallery wall, and shared great tips for pulling
together an eclectic look using a collection of unique pieces.
Kris @ Driven by Décor

Jennifer reminds us Christmas will be here before we know it and shares a
delicious family recipe for Chocolate Covered Coconut Bon Bons that are
 perfect for freezing.

Jennifer @ Dimples & Tangles
